So I have to do an end of the year project for History Class on an Ancient Civilization, except we can't do Rome, Egypt, Mesopotamia or anything from Greece...I've basically narrowed my choices down to

The Achaemenid Empire in Persia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Achaemenid)

OR

The Han Dynasty in China (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Han_Dynasty)

I'm interested in both but don't know which one to do....

What do a bunch people on the intertubes think?

Han Dynasty. Mainly because I find Chinese history to be some of the most interesting on Earth.

does this really count as homework help?

I'm not actually asking anyone to do real work for me...I'm just asking which project would be more interesting to do...

So far there is a three-way tie in the poll between the Achaemenid Empire, the Han Dynasty, and dropping out of school. Hmm...

Not in my eyes, but in the mods'. A few years back I asked people to evaluate a report I had already turned in. The mods deleted my thread.

I assume this cancels out the Incans, Maya, and Aztecs also?

If so, Han China, then play Dynasty Warriors to get the later part of the hisotry :P

On the otherhand Achaemenid had the Battle of Thermapolaye...

Some other people in my class are doing the Inca and Maya...

and I guess the debate boils down to 300 vs Dynasty Warriors :p

Atlantis. Use the best quasi-academic sources you can find and try to convince your teacher it exists.

You could read Asterix. Everyone loves Asterix. :)

The Three Kingdoms period, which marked the close of the Han Dynasty, is a vibrant and interesting read, and is a remarkable period-You figure one of the major figures becomes the Chinese God of War, mainly through killing some third of the known population.

Why can't you do the classical civilizations? The four you cannot do are, in my opinion, the most fascinating and most important ancient civilizations that ever existed.

Go for the Han Dynasty. People really don't know enough about China and Dynastic Cycles.
