Bush is chastizing the Democratic congress for their spending bills (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071030/ap_on_go_pr_wh/bush). Anybody want to remind him what happened for the first six years of his presidency? Let him know how many vetoes he issued when the Republicans were in charge will ya? For the love of all that is holy! This guy never met a spending bill he didn't like until it came from a Democratic Congress.

isnt politics FUN?

its my understanding (from my husband) that the democrats who campaigned hard against budgetary excesses and specifically over "earmarks" have fixed it not by removing earmarks but by developing a way to let the public know AFTER the budget passes just who earmarked what.

isnt that a supberb improvement?

Hah, hah. What a hypocrite. Isn't he responsible for half of the nation's total debt? Even most conservatives are probably thinking, "jeez, Kerry would have been better."

Yes, the Democrats would be far better. And this is a conservative (ex-Republican) talking. I'm now a member of the Libertarian party. The Republicans are a shame to this nation.

While he request almost $50 billion for his wars?!

Seriously, the Democrats aren't that great at budgeting either, but as I've said before, better for us to burn all of our money on the streets than to invest in further military action.

the republicans should be ashamed of themselves. at least the democrats are TAX and spend, the republicans proved to be SPEND and spend. we will be a generation trying to repair what they have done.

but left to their own devices, the democrats would not spend more responsibly (except for war spending which is not a small amount). they only reason its better now is because they have to take the republican president into consideration when they pass a budget bill.

One's desire for fiscal responsibility is inversely proportional to one's level of power in DC.

The fact is, the GOP is looking down the barrel at the ever increasing odds of a democrat congress and a democrat president in 2008. Likewise Bush is seeing what little legacy he has tried to carve out erroding away. The great fear is that the american public will look at years 2000 to 2006/2008 as perhaps the worst blunder in the last 50 years of american politics.

They are desperatly clawing to whatever they can to try and make themselves not look so bad in the eyes of the american people. And because all the republicans have of the last years is an increased debt, a quagmire of a war, a loss of confidence in the american economy, numerous scandals such as DeLay, Foley and Craig under the umbrella of the "party of morality" and a general decrease in america's standing in the international sphere, they are falling back on the only two things they have left, a desperate sense of "hey, we haven't been attacked again YET, right?" and an attempt to try to make "the other guys" look worse.

The GOP is running scared, and this is nothing more than a desperate attempt to hold power, while trying to distract us from looking at exactly what they've done with that power over the last 6 years, and try to get us to believe that "they're spending too much!" is somehow worse than "our deficit is out of control, we're stuck in a war we can't win, and our president is the least popular leader since nixon"

The only Republican who has gotten results with minimal damage so far is Arnold Schwarzenegger and he's pretty much disqualified from running for the White House.

there's actually an interesting 14th amendment argument about that, but it's never been tested, and probably won't work.

It's not over. The S-CHIP bill is going to pass and it will add an "estimated" $35 billion in cost.

When figuring the true cost of government "estimates", I've always found that it works better to triple the figure.

Bush is perfectly willing to spend money, as long as it doesn't prevent any suffering to anyone that's already been born.

mmm creamy butter! Guns or butter? "I can't believe it's not butter" spread. Taste so good you'll never know it's not butter. Anybody see the GAO report on how much the Iraq war will cost over 10 years? 2.4 trillion. So we'll use your example and triple that right? Yeah, I think 35 billion or even 105 billion (triple) for Kids' healthcare is an all right levy. Maybe the new tagline will be, "why keep kids healthy over here when you can make the collateral damage over there?" It's almost too good to be true for this administration.
