Any you can think of that have stumped a bunch of people. Just curious. I get a lot of free time on my hands at work...

Nothing too long - more letters means more chance of them guessing. Likewise not too many repeated letters - if they get that letter they're halfway there.
'Axe' always worked quite well for me :)
