OK... the original thread was deleted.. so I'm posting it here.. to Marrakech II
I will ever from now on consider you the rich guy. And at first I found myself pissed off.... or jealous I guess might be a better word? I'm still not sure. I feel anyone that actually has a desire (a fire) to do something, will do well and succeed. I feel most of us do not ever get that 'fire'. But that is not the fault of those that do. Wish ya well.

Stockholm University? Super User?
I got Syracuse University (my alma mater) but then was stuck on EU. Edinboro University in Pennsylvania? Emory University in Georgia? Evangel University (a private Christian college)?
But I couldn't see any of them adopting a common currency.

No, you really meant Soviet Union. Even though it no longer exists.

I'm sorry, it had to happen.

Seeing as the United States would never accept the hippy wusses in the EU have any say in their economy, and the European Union wouldn't want the baby-eating gun nuts of the US to have any say in theirs, it's a bit of a moot point really!

While a common world wide currency would be convenient for tourists it would also mean there would be a common world wide monetary policy. The economical situations in different parts of the world are very different so they need to run different monetary policies even if that means we have to exchange between currencies when traveling.

That would be really stupid for Europeans, considering how much stronger the Euro is than the Dollar right now.
I think it's really just too big a union for one currency and monetary policy to work.

I'm all for it silly mainlanders and Americans can devalue there currency's even more if it gets them off

There are pros and cons to joining a monetary union. Maybe the biggest con in this case would be the loss of monetary policy independence. That's a big enough problem for the EU as it is.
If the two got together, I think a fair few countries would seriously consider joining in, but China, India and Russia wouldn't. And they sort of matter, especially since recent trends suggest that the power of western central banks to influence global money supply is declining. It's only a matter of time until those countries free up exchange rates and realise how powerful a tool their central banks are (which is a problem, because I wouldn't count on their independence in any of those countries).

Granted it had happened, then dollar-haters (countries that had shifted doing trade from USD to EUR) would then have to shift to another currency... Russian ruble, perhaps? (Chinese yuan? Indian rupee? Japanese yen? Zimbabwean dollars?)

Most of these (it's usually people, not governments) didn't do it because they hated the US, but because the Euro is a stable alternative which their trading partners preferred because they got better exchange deals.

E.E.U.U stands for the United States in Spanish.
Cutt off a few parts, and you have the US.
Now, SU shall stand for the Soviet Union.
SU and US shall have the same currency.
(That's weird . . . that acronym is US backwards.)

Soviet Union. Should the European Union and Soviet Union adopt one currency? The €urasio.:p
No, honestly, I don't think that this would get much positive feedback. Not because people would consider the true disadvantages (the EU does have a benefit from its independance from the Dollar (or any other form of monetary union with the US), because it has a stronger economic growth), but rather because "an object in rest stays at rest unless acted upon by a force" - such an action would be a much to great political endeavour that it would be undertaken within the next few decades, because people want as little change to their lives as possible, especially in the monetary sector - I remember the initial riots about the introduction of the €, and though they have died down, the politicians propably won't attempt an even larger monetary union within a short- to middle-term time scale. I don't say it won't happen (indeed, I am convinced that one day, there will be a one-world currency), but by the time such things become feasible, both the US and EU will propably have ceased to be significant economic factors in the world.

I was thinking 'Stumble Upon'... c.c
I joint currency would probably be a good thing in the long run, but both currency blocks would have to equalise their economies and monetary policy first.
I would imagine the Dollar disappearing rather than the Euro. Mainly because the European economy has been holding steady recently whilst the US's seems to be waning. That and by the time of such a currency union the EU will probably be at least as twice as big as the US.
