so far Colbert gets 13 %..

I am pleased...

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that Colbert is preferred by 13% of voters as an independent candidate challenging Democrat Hillary Clinton and Republican Rudy Giuliani. The survey was conducted shortly after Colbert’s surprise announcement that he is lusting for the Oval Office.

The result is similar when Fred Thompson is the Republican in the three-way race. With Thompson as the GOP candidate, Colbert earns 12% of the vote. http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/election_2008__1/2008_presidential_election/comedian_colbert_reaches_double_digits_as_third_party_candidate

BTW:
In the match-up with Giuliani and Clinton, Colbert draws 28% of likely voters under-30.

He draws 31% of that cohort when his foes are Thompson and Clinton. In both match-ups, Colbert has more support with under-30 voters than any Republican candidate.

Dude, it's a year to the actual elections. Polls at this point have as much importance as a communist at a banker's convention.

Exactly, wouldn't it be damn funny if Colbert won? I know hell would have frozen over but it would be good times.

I know I'll be voting for him. Colbert would be what this country needs so desperately; a real leader and person uncorrupted by politics. Fresh blood that doesn't lie.

Yeah. I love his satire, but does he have a platform?

NewsWeek: Expertinent, How Colbert Could Win the White House.
Talk about deja vu. On Oct. 13, 2006, the movie "Man of the Year" arrived in theaters.
The movie opens with Tom Dobbs (Robin Williams), a comedian and host of a satirical talk show who is able to tap into people's frustrations with the sharply divided, special-interest driven political climate. During his warm-up act, an audience member suggests that he run for President. At first, Dobbs laughs off the idea, but following a popular groundswell of support, later announces on the air that he will stand as a candidate.

Sound familiar? A year later, fiction became fact when Stephen Colbert announced last week that, after "nearly 15 minutes of soul-searching," he had "heard the call" to launch his own quixotic bid for the White House.
Don't laugh. Colbert currently has 530,000 supporters on Facebook--or 150,000 more than Barack Obama....

Maybe you'll find one at Colbert Nation. In any case, it would be excellent if Colbert won.

It would send a powerful message to the other US politicians that they have become bigger jokes than a professional satirist.

No, it would be hell in a handbag. I'd rather have Bush as President.

Although this does look good if Hillary gets knocked down. 15% Colbert, 35% Republican 50% Obama or Edwards

You do realise that if Colbert did in fact win despite all odds, he would in fact step down almost immediately right? Like I said, I think he just wants to make the politicians stop and think.

'Cause US politics needs a good shake up, to be perfectly honest.
