Design me an exercise routine.

So today, I've decided to start an exercise routine, Basically because I have been lazy lately and so busy with grad school that I let my body go, and plus when it does come time for me to become an Occupational Therapist, I'm going to need to be in shape because it's a physically demanding job. However, I have never actually done an exercise routine that involves more than one set of work out. I do have a weight set at home, and dumb bells. Here's what I have so far.

Day 1:
Ride bike
Sit ups

Day Two:
Work on Arms and legs

Day Three:
Ride bike
Sit ups

Day four:
Work on Arms and Legs

and so on and so on.

I basically want to increase muscle mass on my arms, legs, hands and also get a flatter stomach. It doesn't have to be a six pack but still.

You want to go with a boxing regimen. Running, jump rope, a little weight lifting. Emphasis on stamina. Spar with a friend. It builds self esteem as well.

Free weights gnerally burn more calories and aid in muscle growth more than weight machines, but the latter are good for beginners. If you burn enough fat off you get a toned look even if your muscle mass doesn't increase. You already have a six pack, it just being blocked by fat.

I highly recommend that you speak with your doctor rather than ask random people on the internet, because there is a HUGE amount of misinformation out there, and most exercise routines are tailored for one specific person rather than being general. Plus, you have to adjust your diet too to take it all into consideration, and you have to stay regular.

If you're still interested in asking people on the internet, I'd send a telegram to Jocabia. He knows far more about nutrition than I do, and with some information from you, he can give you some general advice. Only general though. For specifics you'll still have to speak with your doctor.

Take up Capoeira, but find a good group and dedicate yourself to it. Don't skip a class because you'd rather have a cupcake. :)

Don't listen to him, I know exactly what you need. Every time you feel tired, deny yourself food. That way, you condition you body to never get tired! (Clever, eh?)

2. Move more - in whatever way you enjoy most [this does not refer to walking from the fridge to the couch] http://images.quizilla.com/1033481287_milybanana.gif
3. See your doctor

I agree with this.

But if you want to gain muscle, train with weights. Lift weights, and make sure to eat protein with every meal. Cheese, beans, chicken is 20% protein by mass.

I already have a six pack, I just keep it in a padded foam cooler.

Wanna know a really fast way to do it?

You need a montage (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-xBSfY01nMk).

Edited to link to a video.

Ugh, don't do any of that boring stuff. The best exercise is something that you actually feel like doing, like a team sport or something.

Actually, I take that back. Even though sit ups are boring and painful, I don't think there's any better substitute for building ab strength, unless you count belly dancing or something.

Design me an exercise routine.

Have tantric sex with your girlfriend for 3 to 4 hours every night while you're listening to George Noory. This will increase your stamina while giving you a much flatter stomach.

For arm strength, box with your girlfriend's father every three days. I suggest 12 rounds with no gloves since this will toughen up your hands. If he doesn't want to box you, just describe to him the tantric sex you're having with his daughter.

To get the best workout for your legs, you need a running partner that is your exact match in speed and stamina. I suggest you find your doppleganger and challenge him to a foot race. You may have to wager your soul, but that will motivate you to push yourself all the way.

A 30 minute brisk walk a day will do wonders. It's easy and it doesn't wear you out as much so it's easier to stay in the routine.

Simplest and easiest is to buy some wrist and ankle weight and just wear them everywhere you go, surprisingly effective.

go to someone who knows about this kind of things. You can have your body tested and say what you want to attain. Then they'll tell you what's possible, what's healthy and they'll give you a schedule and some additional tips and info. It will probably cost some money, but I've heard it's worth it.
Alternatively you could invest in some books about weightlifting and sports, buy some weights, maybe a device to monitor your heart rate (it's healthier and more productive if your heart rate stays under a certain limit). Swimming is also a good way to gain more muscles in your whole body (although I don't really know about the hands) and get better stamina all in one.
Good luck.

spend the money to get a consultation from a personal trainer. its much better to get personalized advice from a professional who actually gets to know you than random advice from people who dont know you and probably dont know much.

Oh come one. You don't need a personal trainer to lose weight or build muscle mass. You just need watch what you eat and go work out. Use common sense.

To go with your muscly hands, why not get some hammers for teeth? Eating so much calcium that you get spikes growing out of your legs could also net you some sweet evil monster benefits.

Oh, also, make sure your cook your own meals out of fresh ingredients, and take regular exercise.

But if you are asking for advice, you obviously haven't figured it out. For some of us, fitness is common sense. Some people need a little help. If you are asking for advice, you should probably go to a personal trainier.

Makes sense, but asking for advice before going to a trainer could save some money...for a bowflex!

Oooh!

Wilgrove, get a bowflex!

30 minutes a day

3 days a week

and you get a....

wait...

BOWFLEX BODY!

Exercise routine, sounds like it's more complicated then I thought to get and stay in shape. I always get out of shape in the winters but plan to try to avoid it this winter by swimming 3 times a week. Am I on the wrong track here and need to get one of those exercise routines instead?

of course I'm no expert but I think that because you're already in shape it can't do no harm.

I've been to a personal trainer, they're too expensive unless they happen to be covered by your medical insurance, and they just give you a bunch of generic exercises anyway. I think they're only useful if you're recovering from some weird injury. If you're seriously out of shape it might be a good idea to see one, but anyone in normal shape doesn't need to spend the time and money.

Walking around the block is good exercise, but it's normally boring. It can be greatly improved, however, if you do it like THIS: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IqhlQfXUk7w
