So do you follow the rules of Shotgun when it comes to travel or do you find this a silly, childish practice?
Do you have any stories or additional rules of Shotgun. Share them with us.
For those who do not know Shotgun is when someone claims the front passenger seat of a car and gets to sit in that seat for an entire journey.
Shotgun is also the name fora type of gun.

Stagecoach days? When there was a driver and an armed rider on top with the driver?

Silly and childish my ass. Shotgun is an integral part of travel. My friends and I all follow it.

Shotgun can apply to many things other than driving and seating arrangements.
Also, my old school had another phrase to go with 'shotgun'. It was 'martin' and meant the opposite of shotgun i.e. 'martin the backseat' = 'shotgun the frontseat'. The origin of the name I think came from some sports assistant called Martin who everyone always blamed when things went wrong. Surprisingly it never spread much outside our school, but I've been attempting to education people ever since I left.

dude i call dibs on backseat all the time, it's awkward as hell when you have to sit next to the driver. i've never heard martin, though, 'round these parts we call it "bitch," and i'm pretty sure that's common usage.
Most important rule:
You can only call shotgun on your way to the car, while you are at a location that it is visible in.

I don't have to play the shotgun game since 99% of the time, I am the driver! :D

We used to, but it never worked out very well because it meant the biggest fattest guy always got stuck (literally :p) in the back seat, rather than in the front where it would make more sense.

The right of shotgun is the greatest thing to come out of America since the booze drinking rebel.
