And that is why I am no longer a conservative.

"You know.. I think you're crazy on this.. but I want to hear your view." IOW, let me mock you relentlessly whilst shouting too loud for your points to actually get through to my thick skull. Typical O'Reilly.

Ahh, the beauties of "feeling" to be inherently correct because one is going with public opinion.

He's good as comedy, that's for sure.

As a media pundit I support him and agree with many of his views. With that being said I also agree with a lot of what Jack Cafferty says as well. Particularly, the Pro-Bush/Republican agenda aspect of O'Reilly I do not like but his views on immigration, justice, education, etc. I agree with a lot.

While I may agree with some parts of his 'punditness' (very rare, I assure you) I can't say that I like the guy.

Fox news is dangerous, they are now trying to drum up the same unilateralist hysterical atmosphere against Iran just as they did against Iraq, and the sad thing is many Americans are brainwashed into believing it.

The sad thing is people don't realize that most of the main news from Foxnews comes from AP & Reuters just like that of CNN and MSNBC. It's the commentary and prime time shows that are republican just as CNN has their democrat shows. Foxnews is a republican channel just as MSNBC and CNN are democrat channels. There's nothing wrong with any of them, well except MSNBC but that's because they can't get their facts right (they insisted a B-2 takes off from a carrier once and they've had a lot of other glaring factual errors but that's neither here nor there). Foxnews, CNN, MSNBC, internet, newspaper, guess what, it's all the same news. Don't blame their bias, which exists in EVERY news outlet because you can't sift through it.

I realize my OP was a bit generic... but can we stick to the topic of O'Reilly and his 'debate' here, rather than turning this into another partisan media equivalent of 'my dick is bigger than yours'?

What is one redeeming value he has? His bullheadedness? His ignorance? His arrogance? His insulting nature? His hypocrisy? At best this is a put-on for ratings.

I must admit I'm also wondering why the hell anyone would want to touch that obnoxious shit with a ten foot pole? Is the guy from Reason a masochist?

O'Reilly, for some reason unbeknown to me, has high ratings, at least the last time I checked. Maybe Sullum is keen on getting his message out to the sort of people that watch O'Reilly's show?

That’s where the truth comes from, ladies and gentlemen…the gut.

Did you know that you have more nerve endings in your stomach than in your head? Look it up. Now, somebody’s gonna say `I did look that up and its wrong‘. Well, Mister, that’s because you looked it up in a book. Next time, try looking it up in your gut. I did. And my gut tells me that’s how our nervous system works.

I approve of the Sullum person, and may consider buying his book if I happen to see it.

Bill O' Reilly needs to be ignored. Then hopefully he'll go away.

Funny thing, but doesn't chocolate alter your consciousness, to an extent? IIRC it gives on a feeling akin to when being in love.

O'Reilly is a fat, stupid, trolling prick. And I might suggest that so are anyone who agrees with his fat, stupid, trolling views - except simply agreeing doesn't amount to trolling. Or fatness.

I would find him hilarious, if it wasn't for the scary fact that so many people take him seriously.

i think over here that would almost class as comedy (as in a parody of a real interview)

although Jeremy Paxman (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4aiHbUplz3k) has a tendancy to do the same sometimes... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HMAt8ZXqtbc :D

Chocolate contains caffiene, though not an awful lot. I think. And IMS it causes the brain to release seratonin, the same chemical released during sex.

And did anyone else notice how O'Rielly clammed up when Sallum started asking whether he smoked or drank coffee? Hmmmmm.

I tried to watch it, but gave up when O'reilly yelled at that guy and called him a pinhead, just after throwing some facts pulled out of his butt (37 million Americans have a substance abuse problem).
Well done there, Mr. Bill. Showed us how to react to a losing argument: Pull 'facts' out of your butt without referencing them and when that doesn't work, hurl names at them.
Mighty fine way of discussing issues. Very mature.

As for that 37 million substance abusers O'Reilly kept hammering on about, a couple of points spring to mind:
1. 37 mill is, in fact, a small % of Americans - ~12%. Last I checked, 12% ain't much.
2. That number, if true, no doubt is everyone, legal alcohol and legal prescription drug abusers included. Something that Mr. Bill conveniently forgets to mention when hurling that number around. If Mr. Bill is so anti-drug use, why isn't he out campaigning for the re-introduction of prohibition?

I love how he shouted, "I care about the dead guy being run over in the street by a drunk driver". mmm...don't think the dead guy would care, cause he's, y'know, DEAD already.
reminds me of a Flight of the Conchords song, "Think about it, Think about it"
A man is lying on the street, some punk has chopped off his head And I'm the only one who stops to see if he's dead, aaoohhhhhh Turns out he's dead.
If you don't know Flight of the Conchords, you be missing out bigtime:
