How much do you multi-task?

Specifically, if you're a computer fanatic like me.

For example, right now I'm viewing these forums, chatting on steam, xfire, and aim.

There was a few months ago where I'd be constantly alt-tabbing between aim, guild wars, mirc...while chatting in-game on xfire, browsing the net, and listening to iTunes. Possibly eating at the same time as well.

You?

Lots. I usually have at least two of my workspaces cluttered. Now that I have my laptop, I have even more crap on the go.

I got some server upgrades under way (yeah yeah windows server admin now lol) also doing some upgrading and testing of a bootable thin client OS (both a linux and a windows one) with a windows server management interface.

Should see me at work actually this is nothing lol (we have over 40 domains to keep track of lol)

I am currently on NSG. And facebook - that's about as much as I can handle.

My company is an ASP which means in essence you remote desktop into one of the servers in the domain we build you

Now they make these computers called "thin clients" which are stripped down dumb terminals that essentially only can remote desktop. These are really cheep (though I dislike them) for companies to use.

This new software they are having us work through turns old normal computers into these thin clients so that they have a very basic OS that does not do much else besides remote desktop

Its a way for our customers to be able to save money by recycling older PC's. It also supposedly allows us to remote manage them more then average thin clients and from a central point

On NSG,
On Google researching the various topics posted on NSG
on the phone with various customers, solving their problems.
while fixing computers AND printers both Hardware and software problems
and chatting with various vendors on their online support
and proofreading fanfic
and catching up on the dozens of dozens of web comics I read daily
while RPing on NATIONSTATES as well as two other forums.

all while keeping an eye out for the boss.

EDIT: I just finished lunch... :p

Currently? On NSG, booking a cruise, hunting for airline tix, talking to my sister on the phone, petting the cat, doing laundry, making dinner and watching paint dry. Oh, and trying to keep the other cat out of the drying paint. No music, though, that would be too much.

By the time I actually get to the cruise, I am going to need it!

At work, I have my laptop for NSG (not supposed to but hell), and the desktop with two screens. Read emails, use RDP to my servers, NSG, use the internal databases, etc ...

Once in a while I have use to my virtual machines for system testing.

Gee, and I just thought you were a moron.

Now, I discover that NSG was only getting a fraction of your attention. That in fact, you are a gorgon-head of morons! I am mightily impressed.

Me? I drink alcohol and type posts. Sometimes I read stuff people link to, but only when threatened with humiliation. Writing is so much more fun than reading.

I'm chatting on msn, viewing the forums, flipping back and forth between here and other tabs, downloading stuff on frostwire, listening to music (running last.fm as well to scrob all my musical choices to my last.fm page (http://www.last.fm/user/vajaradakini/)). Often I'll also be chatting on google chat and downloading some stuff on bitcomet.

I don't like multitasking. I much rather do one thing at a time and enjoy my life.

That IS multitasking.

Enjoying life drains your energy, reducing your performance. Beware! Before you know it, you may be in Nirvana, enjoying life and doing NO things at a time! Even your mother will smile ruefully and say "yeah, a bit of a loser, but he/she is happy, that's all I ever wanted ..."

Stop with that wasteful enjoying stuff! Stop it right now, it's not good for your career or your MSN reputation.

Have a miserable time doing shit you hate, because that's the only way you will ever truly be happy. In the future. Invest in your future happiness! Investment isn't about returns, it's about growth! Be so damn busy that when you are old and sad, the one thing you cannot reproach yourself for is missed opportunities! "I just didn't have the time" you can wail ... with pictures and sound on your grave-chip.

I'm pretty sure it's a term that the last.fm people invented. They just kinda take note of what songs you're playing and then stick them on the website. They also recommend music for me to listen to based on the music I have listened to and all that.

Ah! Symbiotic relationship. You get introduced to new music, they get market research.

Not the best means. I had to give up the Shaw I had all summer for Telus. My connection is just under 1/3 the speed of what I had in the summer. Telus throttles like motherfuckers too.

As I am typing this on my laptop, I currently have these things open and/or running:

1. NSG - this thread
2. NSG thread list
3. Gmail inbox
4. Gmail attachment
5. Google search for how to insert an equilibrium arrow into MS Word (I still don't know how)
6. Referencing guide site
7. Guide on writing formal lab reports
8. My chemistry online website
9. Computer stupidity jokes website

And that's just my current Firefox tabs. In addition:

10. MSN
11. MS Paint: Trying to draw an equilibrium arrow to insert into MS word after not being able to type one in
12. uTorrent: Downloading F.E.A.R
13. MS Word: My formal lab report in progress
14. My C: directory and Downloads folder opened - forgot they were open
15. Untitled text document with remind-to-self notes on calculus homework questions and date of my next midterm.

And the above is just what's on my laptop. As for what I think is open on my desktop:

16. uTorrent downloading Neverwinter Nights 2 Expansion on my desktop
17. Firefox open on some Heroes-related site - I am a major Heroes fanatic after hearing about the show here on NSG

As for why I have uTorrent open on both my laptop and desktop: I'm currently leeching a nice 3Mbit wireless connection from an unpassworded network on my laptop, while my desktop is downloading from my turtlely 1Mbit cable connection.

Depends on what I concentrate on. When I procrastinate, I often listen to music and browse, alternate between whatever pages I have tabbed up. I don't like real-time chatting, as you cannot stop and think for as long as you like and can be prompted to abruptly pause whatever else you're doing at any point by an incoming message and have to spit out an acceptable response (and engaging me in small talk is like feeding a Pentium 4 FPU with denormal numbers), so I hardly ever do such, the exception being the rare IRC session.

When I concentrate deeply on an engaging task, however - like coding - I often concentrate to the point of being quite oblivious to the rest of existence, taking irregular breaks to procrastinate. (unless I get really deeply into it, in which case I'll go on without interruption until I desperately need to pee, eat or sleep, whichever comes first)

I run virtual servers which kind of tie up my CPU too much. My current single core does the job but it becomes sluggish when I start up too many applications and any VMs running at the same time. The old AMD does not have VT tech on the CPU either.
