doppelgängers

A doppelgänger (pronunciation (help·info)) or fetch is the ghostly double of a living person, a sinister form of bilocation.

I've heard on Coast to Coast AM a few times from people who call into the show claiming that they've seen their own doppelgänger. Of course I have never seen a doppelgänger of myself and I wonder if such a thing really exist, but since this seems to be a good thread topic, I'd though I'd start a topic about it anyways. Have anyone ever seen their own doppelgänger? Have you ever seen anyone else's doppelgänger? If you have seen your own, have anything happened? Also, no twins do not count. doppelgängers are to be born into separate families not the same. So anyone got any stories?

Not yet.

Edit: If everyone in the world has one, it would be so widespread that we would have seen at least a couple of other people's already. It would mean there are only 3billion different looking individuals and the other half are carbon copies of the other 3billion.

Oh, even with an ä - how Germanic of you.

I have two exes that look so eerily identical, I've considered introducing them just so they can do a DNA test. It is a bit embarrassing when I meet them and I have troubles keeping track of the right name to use. My friends thought I had gotten together with my old ex when I met the latter one, and were very confused when I told them they weren't the same person. At least, I think they aren't the same person...

Have anyone ever seen their own doppelgänger?

Yes, he was a complete and total anal aperture. He also introduced me to NationStates. :D

I haven't seen him in years, and hope never to see him again. He was extremely intelligent, and had a foul mouth. He won't likely end-up in crime, he's too smart. He may be another Nixon though.

I've had exactly the same problem! It was highly bizarre, especially since they could be considered a distinctive face.

Yes, I did. Some friends of mine knew both of us and kept commenting from the day they met me that we looked the same but she was the evil me. Then she came into town one day (she lives in another state) and so they got us together. I have to say I didn't care for her at all, although we look the same, we have very different personalities. The weirdest part was that the first (and only) time I met her, we both happened to have worn similar outfits.

It was kind of freaky.

Doppelgängers get +2 to all stats, and are a +4 level, when used as a player character.

Oh, you weren't asking about them in the context of D&D 3.5.

Not in person, but in my HS chemistry book's intro pages, there was a picture of someone who looked exactly like me!

Opposite gender though, judging by the rings...which only made it weirder!

I tend to remind people of someone they know a lot. Which means despite my better efforts I must be pretty much AverageMan. I have doppelgangers everywhere...perhaps you even know one...

there is a child model that looks just like my friend's son, every time I see him in a parenting magazine or an ad I think "is that Ray?" but it's not, it's this other kid....looks nearly exactly like him though.

I've seen my doppelgänger once...it was curious, to say the least. I never saw him again, ever, at any time, and actually didn't even see him leave the restaurant.

I have a doppleganger, at my school. He's three years my junior, and often mistaken for me.

Never seen my doppleganger, but I've seen one of someone I know. Hes two years his junior, but hes the complete opposite of him. (The senior is a lying cheating bastard, the junior is actually pretty nice.)

If I have a doppelgänger, I wonder if he would be the nice one or the evil one.

Nope, but then there wouldn't be one of me. I'm just so awesome that it was decided that to make another would be almost a sin.

My friend has at least 4 ppl in the years below that look really alike to him. The one in the year below is IDENTICAL to him (I always confuse them, which is awkward seeing as I have no idea who the younger one is). My friend also looks like harry potter .

Judging by the graphics in RPGs, 90% of the NPCs are dopplegangers. >_>

Yeah, that kid in the metal combat walker thing from Escaflowne popped that Doppelganger good!

Of course they look the same; they're both Swedish.
I'm kidding.
I have never seen anyone that looks enough like me to consider them my other. However, I've seen several people that look like me from different angles. That is, there is one person who from the back looks like me from the back, another who from the left looks like me from the left, etc. The only angle not covered is directly in front of the face, which makes me suspect that they and I are actually a divided doppelganger of another person, one we've never seen.

In Games magazine a while back, there was a story about someone who looked EXACTLY like Abraham Lincoln. He auditioned for a play featuring our former president, and the teacher auditioning screamed -- she told the magazine "Even the lines on his face or the same!" or something. The magazine had pictures of "The Great Emancipator" and "The Great Impostor", and they really DID look so much alike.

True. When I went to Denmark, I was amazed how many people looked very similar, I guess because of a smaller gene pool. It was also amazing how attractive most people were.

Liars !

Look a likes are rather rare. And most of you already met him/her? Some of you met several look a likes? Come on...

With some basic statistic calculations, one can calculate how high the odds are, that you would meet your unknown twin. Here on the Nationstates forum, it’s like 99% ! :)

And of course, the expected and unavoidable evil twin hit the scene as well. I assume I don’t have to mention that the poster is on the ‘good’ twin side.

So it’s statistically safe to say that the majority of the posters in this thread are just filthy liars.

Or the majority of people that haven't met their doppelganger didn't respond.;)

I cannot meet my doppelganger, if that would happen there would be too much awesome in one place at thesame time.
