Huh?

And who are you, anyway?

Apparently he's King Arthur. King of the Britons.

I didn't know we had a king. I thought we were an autonomous collective.

His movie has been out for how long? Talk about delayed reaction, I think if the committe had a ounce of independence, it'd have picked him sooner, if at all. Several years after the fact, just seems a little too late, especially when you have so many other people doing so much more (actual) work to combat it.

Released in 2006. In other words, not a delayed reaction. And Gore's been talking about global warming for nigh on twenty years, which is what the award is really for. The movie is just icing on the cake. And not the vanilla icing. I'm talking about the little gel designs. Or maybe it's the candles. It's really nothing compared to his previous work.

Last time I checked, Bush never claimed to be a prophet. Also, Bush is not the false Prophet considering the fact that the anti-christ is not even in power nor around yet as far as I know. Man! And people think that I'm a religious nutcase.
Are you a True Believer? Do you obey thy Lord? If so, why are you questioning me?

It must be a proud day for the Gore family -- to finally be in the company of such immortal greats as Yasser Arafat...

Not to mention Kofi Annan!

Monsanto and the legion of scientists employed there.
Monsanto??? You must be joking right?

Medtronic and the developers of the new stent.
Scratch these guys off your list too?

Medtronic Class Action Lawsuit (http://medtronic.gregmonforton.com/)

A class action lawsuit is pending in Canada seeking $170,000,000 in damages for Canadians injured by defective Medtronic defibrillators.

This lawsuit covers all Canadians who received a defective Medtronic defibrillator manufactured between April 2001 and December 2003. The warning affects approximately 87,000 Medtronic defibrillators, and more than 13,000 people with these ICDs already have had the devices surgically removed.
Again, as another poster mentioned, these companies you suggest are not about "peace".

Well maybe if the Dem's win gore will be promoted to Secretary of the Environment, and Officer in charge of prevention of earth shattering global warming issues.

Back around the time of "Live Earth," I came across a new anthem composed in Algore's honor. Now that Algore has won the Nobel Greenpeace Prize, it's only appropriate that the whole world join in song to celebrate and rededicate themselves to the struggle. Play it, Sam!

THE AL GORE SONG
(Green Banners High)

Green banners high, worldwide in ranks together
Green marchers take to streets now over-warm.
Green scientists, authorities on global weather
Unite to sound the climate-change alarm.

In every nation, soon will come the hour
Foes shouted down, an end to corporate greed.
In every land, progressive parties seizing power
Now justified by science and by need.

Then no more heard, deniers’ opposition
The world made safe for species highly prized.
The billions saved from excess greenhouse gas emission
The Western world deindustrialized.

Green banners high, worldwide in ranks together
Green marchers take to streets now over-warm.
Green scientists, authorities on global weather
Unite to sound the climate-change alarm.

Are you a True Believer? Do you obey thy Lord? If so, why are you questioning me?

Because you, and the fact that I need to point this out is providing me with no end of amusement, are not God.

But hey, you're just here to stir things up and provoke others within the accepted rules of the forum, and I have to hand it to you, junior, you're doing a spectacular job of it.

Son,

We already know that the Peace Prize has been devalued. It has been devalued for sometime.

Seeing as it was created mostly out of guilt, I would say it was devalued from Day One. At least since Roosevelt won it.

Monsanto??? You must be joking right?
No, you can't build a peaceful world on empty stomachs and human misery and Monsanto has funded scientists' research into developing new, more efficient methods of food production. The scientists want to solve world hunger. Monsanto wants to use the whole solving world hunger thing for PR.

Monsanto helped to create one of the most contaminated sites in Britain (http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2007/feb/12/uknews.pollution1)
The Guardian? Are you serious? Really?

"..."

"...?"

See below response; who cares about a bunch of gap-toothed, speech-impared brits, etc.? Take your pick.

Environmental and health record (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monsanto#Environmental_and_health_record)
Looks like they admitted to each and every mistake and paid for them all, both literally and figuratively. Have you looked at the record of PETA on animal treatment? Or GP on environmental damage? At least Monsanto not only pays for the cleanup of their goofs but they also provide a much needed service to millions of people.

Genetically-Engineered Food Dangers (http://www.holisticmed.com/ge/)
Now you're just being stupid. There is absolutely nothing wrong with GE food and every accusation of dangers specific to GE foods have been dispelled. Genetic engineering in food production has been going on for thousands of years. The only difference between then and now is that scienetists are not restricted to eugenics (selective breeding, cross-breeding, and grafting), a slow and dangerous method of genetic manipulation. When you selectively breed or cross breed something you can't be sure of what it is you're going to get and it can take decades or even centuries to get the desired results. GE food in the US is tested by the FDA, the USDA, and the EPA for human health effects and environmental impact. Millions go into the development and in-house testing of a strain before they go to the government for testing.

There are those that say, and I wouldn't be suprised if you were one, that they'd like to see a shift to 100% "sustaible" organic agriculture. The one huge glaring problem in that is that if we were to use only organic farming on existing farmland we'd only be able to feed about 4 billion of the 6 1/2 billion world population. I personally don't see 2 billion people just saying "I'll starve to death so that you can have your inefficient, over-priced, nutrionally deficient food and smugly sit in your "green" house chatting with your friends about the 2 roundtrip vacations you take every year in jumbo jets while setting an example for the little people by driving a luxury hybrid SUVs to work", but that's just me. I guess someone like you views such an act as purging the surpluss population.

Fun fact: In August 2002 GP went to Africa and told the Zambian government that several thousand tons of donated corn had been poisoned in an effort to prevent it from being distributed to the 2.4 million starving or at risk people in Zambia. As a direct result people who would have been saved died by the thousands. That's right, GP murdered hungry Africans by denying them food. Just like Nazis did to the Jews. GodWIN!

"The campaign of fear now being waged against genetic modification is based largely on fantasy and a complete lack of respect for science and logic."
- Dr. Patrick Moore

I also suggest you read The Frankenfood Myth: How Protest and Politics Threaten the Biotech Revolution, with a forward from Nobel Peace Prize winner Norman Borlaug, whose work in genetic manipulation of food crops has saved an estimated billion people from death by starvation.

Blinded by the light?
No, not really. In fact I prefer the shadows so that I can keep my eyes open all the way.

Scratch these guys off your list too?
I heard "aboot" that. Think it has something to do with wires that fray or tear or something. But keep in mind that these were developed and installed because those people had serious heart problems, like the kind where it just stops beating. Having something in your chest to detect such a failure and give it a jolt doesn't seem like such a bad idea.

Seems more like a slight flaw in an otherwise genius device that prolongs the lives of thousands.

Again, as another poster mentioned, these companies you suggest are not about "peace".
No, they're about profits. The scietists they employ are about peace and altruism and making science serve a useful purpose and all that warm fuzzies crap. If you can get this prize for building a hospital, staging protests, or saving a billion people from starvation, then why not for artificial organs and new stents? Why not give it to someone who has done some real work to improve the lives of people around the world and foster peace? Why did it need to go to "the end is nigh" Al Gore for making a shitty movie? There were other, more deserving people and organizations.
Corneliu 2

Yep and let us not forget that someone more deserving got past over. Someone who did her best to save at least 2,000 jews from certain death during said Nazi Occupation.
