Muslim leader call for peace with Christians

This is a nice gesture and can hopefully quell the unabashed nonsese that Muslims hate the West and Christians. In time, perhaps, people will keep from sweeping gneralizations such as that, but for the time being we're stuck with xenophobia. What are you thoughts on the call for peace and recent dscisions to split Jeruselum?

How could we hate the Christians? When we speak of the Prophets, we speak of the same ones. The Muslims, Christians and Jews, when we tell stories about the Prophets, our stories are the same, the people in them are the same. We worship the same God. Would God want us killing each other? or living in Brotherhood?

Why is there so much hatred now between Muslims and Jews, did we both not share persecution for centuries and when the Jews were for the most part expelled from Europe, didn't the Muslims take them in? Wasn't the Golden Age of Jews in Spain under the Moors and weren't they both expelled from al-Andalus together? There is no reason for hatred between the three religions, only reason for brotherhood.

The split of the Palestinean regions is a tragedy. How can Palestine survive with half of its historic land? How can Israel survive with half of what it has now? Neither can, it is foolish to divide it. The Israeli and Palestinean governments should unite and form a unity-government, allow all Palestineans the right to return and hold free and fair democratic elections. One country, Two peoples, Three courts (1 Judaic family and civil law, 1 Muslim family and civil law and 1 universal secular). All of this is possible in a democratic system. When the Africans freed themselves in South Africa, they didn't retaliate by pushing the Whites out of the land, they entered into a new era. Similarly, when the Palestineans free themselves, there should also be a new era of reconciliation.

Hatred only breeds more hatred and violence, more violence. If it doesn't stop, we will all be dead over an issue that can be solved by brotherhood between the Semitic race and the Abrahamic religions.

I will always support the concept of Isratine.

Perhaps they watched "Braveheart" one too many times and they got the idea to invite their enemies to "peace talks," ala, Edward Longshanks Diplomacy Ruses 101. Maybe they just wanted to get all the Christians leaders in the same place at the same time?!?!?!

Nah, I'm jk.

I hope it's a start of a long and successful treatise of the minds... Maybe they can team up with the Catholics and vote the Secularists out of the European power bases! :p

I am very glad they spoke out. Maybe there will be progress toward peace.

And let us not forget who took in Mohamed when all his fellows wanted him dead.

Indeed. The Jews treated him quite well and helped him survive in the Hijra, while many of the early Muslims took refuge in Ethiopia, which was a Christian Kingdom. There is a good history of co-operation and peace.

Yeah. Religion is never the problem, it's just the stupid people in it. If the terrorists were Jews, then they'd be fighting over David, or something; decimating Buddhists, who know? It doesn't matter what religion you are if you're dumb enough to blow other people-up.

The biggest debt owed is the invention of coffee. :)

Of course they are, but the 'voting' issues is what I was talking about and the Muslim block would distinctly have more in common with the Catholic voting block already in many European nations rather than all self identifying Christians in Eurpoe in general... (Catholic and Muslim blocks both being anti-gay marriage and anti-abortion etc.), and that was my intended implication, not that I thought Catholics weren't Christians.

Almost no other person in the world understands this when I talk to them about religion. I have finally found somebody (who voiced this) who shares this belief. Amen.

How can I hate Muslims? Honestly, we derive our religions from the same source. Muslims and Christians (and Jews) should choose peace and brotherhood. Cooperation amongst religions is the best option.

Instead of pointing out the differences and inconsistencies between religion, instead we should be pointing out the similarities and common beliefs.

(Do Islamic terrorists who purportedly 'hate the west' understand the fact that Islam is 'western'? That the very culture they decry and despise is actually massively influenced by their culture?)

Am I the only one who doesn't find this at all surprising? The vast majority of Muslims and Muslim leaders have been saying this for years. This is simply the first time I've heard of that so many signed onto a single letter.

Awww... just when the Kimchiteers Club decided to lay low too. It would have been fun reading them try to marginalize this as an insignificant exception to the 3b1l m05l3m r00l, or perhaps even better call for Christians, Jews and Muslims to all be sterilized together.

Well done them.

Maybe we'll see fewer "Muslims are Evil" statements from now on...

Yeah, and maybe water will turn to wine. Unfortunately there are very few people who base their whole 'ZOMG MUZLIMS AM TEH EVIL' silliness on reality. They just want someone to hate, they don't care who.

This is a nice gesture and can hopefully quell the unabashed nonsese that Muslims hate the West and Christians.

Four days ago iirc, Cardinal Dionigi Tettamanzi, Archbishop of Milan, issued the traditional message to the Islamic milanese for the end of Ramadan.
He stated that the laïcité is the very thing that allows religions to be free choice, and the minorities to be protected from abuses and discrimination.

Too bad Tettamanzi will never be Pope. He would have performet far better than Ratzi.

Maybe one of the Cardinals will go Jesus throw the Pope down a reactor shaft?
