Yo Joe! ...movie...

Yeah, well, after Transformers turned a dime (and you should all be ashamed of yourselves...I am...), you knew it was only a matter of time.

G.I. Joe is coming to the big screen. (http://www.insomniacmania.com/news_default.php?id=3743)

Now, I'm not one to declare one source of ideas better than another. Shakespeare took stories from all over the place, he wasn't impressive for 'original' stories, but in his execution.

So I'm not going to crap on the mining of my childhood entertainment. It's only natural. My generation is old enough to have disposable income and kids that they'll take to these things...

But a couple of years ago Cartoon Network was running the old G.I. Joe cartoons and I have to say, my viewing tastes as a kid sucked ass. They were unwatchably bad. Just fucking horrible. And I watched these damnable things every afternoon.

So even with the threat of Mark Wahlberg (which might save me from having to see it, since I declared to not watch another movie with him in it ever again), this might be an improvement. Actually, it almost can't possibly be worse.

I can't decide which question to ask, so I'll ask both-

Is there any way you might see this (this is granting that right now there is only the development announcement and further details about who will be involved and how it will be executed should logically effect that opinion).

and

What's left to mine? Thundercats? M.A.S.K.? (both mentioned in the link) Gem and the Holograms?

Somebody or other bought the rights to do a Thundercats movie over the Summer. So, there.
It's times like this I'm glad I can't remember any of my childhood. Or anything that happened more than a week ago.

M.A.S.K. could have potential as a live action movie, but seeing as I have no real faith in the movie making ablility of studios (when going from cartoon to live action, Transformers not included), I'd expect them to screw it up.

I certainly have my doubts about that (though after watching Dragon Wars-abysmally bad, there's no use pretending I have standards...), but this one really makes the most amount of sense. I'm surprised, really, that this movie (along with Captain America) didn't come out in 2002 or 2003.

The flag waving in it should approach nauseating. Almost has to, really.

Considering that (according to the op link) this takes place before the rise of COBRA (a ruthless terrorist organization determined to rule the world) makes me want to go and re-live my childhood.

The only thing saving movies these days is Sam Jackson, Angelina Jolie, and Robb Zombie.

If Robb Zombie directed a movie starring Sam Jackson and Jolie, no movie would ever be allowed to be made again.

PS. Beowulf movie out next month with Jolie as Grendel's mother.
Iron Man with Sam Jackson as Nick Fury. You know how he got that job? He walked into the middle of a meeting as was like "I'm gonna play Nick fuckin' Fury in Iron Man." and walked out. What are they going to do? Say no? Of course not, he's Sam fuckin' Jackson.

Jackson was in Snakes on a Plane. That alone should have so completely destroyed any acting credibility he ever had that he was only capable of landing roles in snuff films and one season sit-coms.

Yep! (http://imdb.com/title/tt0093507/)

IronMan looks interesting.

oh and another little known transistion...

GUNDAM! (http://imdb.com/title/tt0198123/)

M.A.S.K. would make the transistion to live action fine. of course, that is dependant on the writers.

Silverhawk? nah.

Robotech? possibly.

Jem? possible with CGI... but the writers gotta be good.
