In the spirit (ha ha, pun) of Halloween, and recent posts on this forum, I'm curious what people's favorite ghost stories are. If it's short enough, post it.
My favorite is The Turn of the Screw by Henry James. It's a fairly dense, 19th century novella, but it's very creepy, scarier than most movies I've seen. Anyone else?

Hold it there... ghosts and spirits are very different entities and no doubt are not amused at your little 'pun'.

I find 'ghost' stories about grave-digging trolls to be the most frightening. :p
