I think you'll like it.

There's a scratch record, Kid Koala-style in that song.

My faves are goth and Industrial stuff. Last time I was really excited by a new-discovery band was Powerman 5000. But my tastes are fairly eclectic. Even so - I was surprised by:

Band/Artist Name? the "Timbaland presents Shock Value" project

Genre?; Sounds like? Hard to be sure... very eclectic. Some very-much-R&B stuff, but a surprisingly eclectic album. It's the eclectic stuff that interested me.

Best track? I'm really liking "The Way I Are", "Bombay", "Throw It On Me", "One and Only", and "Time" (that's the best one, to my taste).

A few:

Band/Artist Name - Grand Funk Railroad

They're coming to your town to help you party down.

Band/Artist Name? - Uri Caine (the Mozart album, been a fan for a while now, but now listening to the Mozart album

Genre? - Third Stream/Free Jazz

Sounds like? - Mozart in a blender

Best track? - Whole album

Myspace? - Uri doesn't hang with the MySpace...but speaking of MySpace, I'll take this opportunity to pimp the little brother's band one more time...

Band/Artist Name? - The Grumpy (http://www.angelfire.com/rock/grumpy/)

Genre? - Rock

Sounds Like? - Seriously, I'm not a rocker so I suck at the 'sounds like,' part of why I keep pimping his band is to try and get someone who is a rocker to tell me.

Best Track - My favorite is an old song of theirs, Feeling a Sense (http://youtube.com/watch?v=_8aabKr3vlk), I also like *Tastic (http://youtube.com/watch?v=_Jxzc0MTG0M). For complitions sake, heres Walk (http://youtube.com/watch?v=yk3vAOHe67s) which is the most rockin' of the three, I kinda like the 'buzz' sound of the guitar here. Different version (http://youtube.com/watch?v=afL--w5KzhU).

Band/Artist Name? - Children of Bodom
Genre? - Death/Power Metal
Sounds like? - I dunno, death metal. Their playing style is for sure power metal influenced almost on the verge of BNW, but lyrics and vocal stem from death metal. My guess is cause the Finnish don't have anything close to Bruce, Rob or Dio.
Best track? - Six Pounder, You're Better Off Dead

Eugh.

Has British music really stooped so low that we can actually claim these bands are, say, any good?

Sad times, really.

Modern music is now hackneyed post-rock shite, or, possibly worse, imitation punk, with none of the crappy conditions that provided lyrical depth of (erm some, although not most) 1970s stuff to make it even remotely interesting.

Right Now:

Nightwish (with their new singer)
Symphonic Metal
Sounds like the definitional Symphonic Metal group who finall have a singer with enough force to sing metal, and keep their more Operatic format.
I'd recomend the song Poet and the Pendulum, if you have the patience for a 14 minute song.

Epica
Symphonic/Goth Metal
Sounds like transcendentalism given musical form. Simone Simmons has the purest, most beautiful voice in the world.
Chasing the Dragon or Never Enough

Light This City
Melodic Death Metal
Sounds like death metal. Good death metal. Arch Enemy without the stupider Black Metal portions of their work.
Cradle for a King or Unwanted Savior

Protest the Hero
Mathcore
Sounds like nothing you've ever heard. Technically amazing, agressive music with more force than a hurricane.
Divine Suicide of K or Turn Soonest to the Sea
Ultraviolent Radiation

Band Name? Antony and the Johnsons (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mbA0RmHD7RY)
Genre? I think they call it cabaret noir, or so says wiki. I just like his voice a lot, and it's something different.

Band Name? Cocorosie
(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EoZmEoTPIEk)Genre? I think they're a (kinda weird) genre of their own.

Artist Name? Alva Noto (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gjMvQHgAgjg)

All I listen to are "obscure old artists!"

---------
Band/Artist Name? Faust

Genre? ....Kraut rock?

Sounds like? .....Faust

Best track? Errrrmmm.....for the uninitiated, "It's a Rainy Day, Sunshine Girl." If that doesn't scare you off, you've got it made.

---------

Band/Artist Name? A Place to Bury Strangers (they're actually a new band!)

Genre? Noise Pop?

Sounds like? Jesus & Mary Chain, Early B.R.M.C.; basically, all those reverb-and-feedback-heavy bands.

Best track? All of 'em.

----------

Band/Artist Name? Dalek (also fairly new)

Genre? Experimental Hip-Hop

Sounds like? cLOUDDEAD, if Public Enemy had ever collaborated with My Bloody Valentine

Best track? Asylum

----------

Band/Artist Name? Peter Brotzmann

Genre? The angriest, most brutal anti-jazz you'll ever hear.

Sounds like? John Zorn without the cartoonish atmosphere

Best track? Hard to say with jazz in general, but I like all of Machine Gun and the first track of the two-track LP Nipples.

-----------

Band/Artist Name? Coil

Genre? Depending on the album, EBM, Ambient, Dark Ambient, IDM, etc.

Sounds like? Not any one artist, really; I'd bet that they were a big influence on Matmos, though (another great electronic duo who are also gay....weird).

Best track? For IDM/EBM nerds, anything from Love's Secret Domain. If you just got your heart ripped from your chest by some cheating bitch/bastard, anything off of The Ape of Naples.

Hmmm.

Mogwai and 65daysofstatic are brilliant, but Biffy Clyro is distinctly meh. I never trust bands who go through massive direction changes, just because the marketing men said it’d be a good idea.

Faust
I can only add my hearty recommendations to Sohcrana’s. Faust are beyond excellent.

Ooh! cLOUDDEAD’s self-titled is pretty much my favourite piece of music, ever, so I’ll definitely check out Dalek.

I have to recommend Estatic Fear.Absolutely awesome symphonic doom metal band.Sounds a bit like Empyrium, basically an excellent, tender, crystal like female voice on autumnish sad music.
My second recommandation is Equilibrium-a german viking-death metal band which i hold very dear.
And the third is,for those who still haven't heard it,E.S. Posthumus-top quality epic soundtrack music, all excellent songs,in the league of Hans Zimmer or Klaus Badelt, yet probably better.

Band/Artist Name: Unexpect

Genre: Hmm...difficult. Last.fm page describes them as a mix of "Black, Death, Progressive and Melodic Metal; Classical, Operatic, Medieval, Goth, Electro, Ambient, Psychotic, Noise and Circus Music with an occasional jazzy touch". That sounds a wee bit pretentious, so I'll just go with "awesome".

Best Track: Not sure, but I like "Summoning Scenes" and "Meet me at the Carrousel" best.

Though it might be better to look at http://www.last.fm/music/Unexpect where you can listen to the whole of their last album :D

Band/Artist Name - The Locust

Genre - Grindcore/Noise

Sounds Like - ...listen to them.

Best Track - Too many.

w00t, teh Locust. Love those guys. ;)

Also, no new bands, really, but some oldish ones:

Band/Artist Name - Bad Religion (If you like them check out NOFX as well. Both pwn)

Genre - Punk Rock

Sounds Like - ...The Offspring? Well, that's unjust, since they were the ones who influenced the Offspring (and are better), but... Offspring are more popular...

Best Track - Oh come on, they have 16 or more albums, I can't be expected to name one... ;)
(Not 'Punk Rock Song', though it's the most popular on Youtube, or was last time I checked...)

Myspace - http://www.myspace.com/badreligion (I don't use Myspace, I'm pretty much anti-Myspace, but hey, at least they get to show off their number of friends to people.)

Band/Artist Name - Heaven Shall Burn

Genre - Metalcore/Melodic Death Metal/etc... Way better than any other band that has been classified as Metalcore, though, at least from what I've seen (Evergreen Terrace are quite good, IMO, though not as much)

Sounds Like - Just listen to 'em.

Best Track - I'm not sure, really... Counterweight, maybe?

Myspace - Oh come on, no band can sing... Well, scream... The song 'MyBestFriends.com' and still have a Myspace... >:D

Band/Artist Name - Eyehategod

Genre - Sludge. Yummy.

Sounds Like - ...You expect me to name something for these guys?

Best Track - Well, with Sludge bands, that's kinda hard... 'Jackass in the will of God' is their most 'mainstream' song, thus my least favourite... Their album 'Dopesick' is brilliant, though.

Mogwai and 65daysofstatic are brilliant, but Biffy Clyro is distinctly meh. I never trust bands who go through massive direction changes, just because the marketing men said it’d be a good idea.

Biffy Clyro haven't gone through any massive direction changes, and any evolution of their sound definitely isn't because the "marketing men" said it would be a good idea...

Anyhow, listen to The Vertigo of Bliss a few times, it's one of the best albums this decade, and criminally unkown.
