I was hoping for something else.. something like a new president.

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan - Pakistan's Gen. Pervez Musharraf swept Saturday's presidential election, according to unofficial results, but the Supreme Court could still disqualify the military leader in the vote boycotted by nearly all of Pakistan's opposition.

It seems to me that in both cases, the opposition doesn't vote.

When people aren't willing to vote, then they can't really complain afterwards that their votes aren't heard.

What was gonna happen? God was gonna come down from on high and magic up some opposition? Pixies were gonna run?

If all the opposition refuse to take part, it's no big surprise if the one main contender does pretty good.

This is not a real election where people vote.

He got the votes from the members of parliament...a parliament he installed, with the majority party PML-Q mid-wifed by him by engineering a split with PML, a parliament whose own term is ending in a few months.

Not to mention he stood while he is still the army chief.

Ideally I'd like to see Musharraf remain as head of state in Pakistan, but not as head of the army and to form an alliance with one of the previous prime ministers - either Benazir Bhutto or Nawaz Sharif - in order to form an interim government before proper elections can be held.

Pakistan Zinzabad! It really isn't that big of a deal, to be honest. If any of you guys actually visited Pakistan, you would know. There are no, "omfg, terorrists on the streets!!!11" "Bombingz every dayz!!" crap. I hate the average american's idea on terrorism in Pakistan.
