So I'm about to buy a PS3 and a X360, but the nearest phone jack is about 20 meters downstairs in the dining room. I could either:

A. Buy a 20+ meter telephone cable
or
B. Get a wireless router and hook it up to my PC in the basement.

So, a question to those of you who own the damn contraptions: Do they support (built in) wi-fi? Or do I need to buy a special reciever for them? Should I buy the cable instead?

Remember, by answering these questions, you're helping an online gaming deprived child the chance to prosper in a healthy environment of frag grenades and bullets.

I wouldn't get a wireless router. Ours (hooked up to pcs for Warcraft) lags when trying to play games. A 20m cable isn't too bad.

PS3 has built in Wi-Fi, you have to buy an add-on for the 360 or use an Ethernet cable, not sure if you can use Ethernet cables for the PS3 but I assume you can.

When you mention your phone jack I am assuming you mean DSL? If you can go with cable Internet over the phone DSL, do it. You will see an obvious difference in play with cable over DSL. Most Americans and Canadians play on Cable which will give you a definite disadvantage with DSL in games to a point you may break your controller while getting mad.

Wait, why do you need to plug your consoles into the internet anyway?

Patches and online multiplayer usually.
