Grownup toys

Everyone has a toy, whether it's a kit-built car, or a classic car, motorcycle, etc. Everyone has a toy that they show off, take extra care of, and are just damn proud of. Now I know some people of NSG have their own toys, so lets see them.

As for me, I don't have a toy yet, but when I get out of grad school, I do hope to own and customize a Piper Cherokee 180 aircraft.

Haha, way to keep shit on topic man. Here's my toy. I ordered it through a skate shop back home, so I won't get to see it, much less ride it till I go home for Christmas.

My toys?

My Galoob series of Micro Machines ... Babylon 5, Star Wars, Star Trek, a few other movie series. I like to agitate coworkers (by name of Fred, for example) with them.

Other than that, notsomuch other than books.

I remember those. I still have quite a collection of the military themed ones back home. I wonder of they're worth anything?

I'd rather have it in black. Maybe a 3" lift and either 31s or 33s for tires. And an ARB bullbar (http://www.arbusa.com/toyota.php?num=10#image) for sure (so I can knock trees over).

I originally got them for RPGs, but then i got all obsessive about them and went on a collecting rampage.

So, where are we meeting for the RPG? :D
They're always worth something. 'specially for people who like to fly/drive them around people with accompanying soundtracks!

I don't have toys. I derive enjoyment from eating cheap food, drinking chilled energy drinks and watching sitcoms by myself. All at once, of course.

I am currently without a toy. I had a Jeep that was one of those things you pour money into and constantly customize and take apart and put back together and such. I sold it though.

My husband wants a Cobra, he has wanted one since he was like 4 years old, one day he will get one......probably not today though. I don't have time to put it together for him right now, and also we don't have space to keep it while I put it together for him.

I suppose the closest thing I have to a toy right now is my sedan which is about to get customized.......as soon as I find the time to replace the fuel pump. No point in repainting the thing and such until it's actually running again. I think I might take the stupid thing apart this weekend and figure out what the heck I am doing, but I want to buy a repair manual first, since it's a foreign car and I haven't ever taken it apart before.

Does it count if it is our main mode of transportation? I have a nice cross bike with custom everything other than tires, frame and tires. Its beautiful. I especially enjoy my upright handlebars (I hate bending over when flying through city traffic, that extra couple inches is important.)

Why can't your husband build the car, I mean it does take a year and a half to build a FF Shelby Cobra, that how long it took my dad, and he's still working on it even though it's now in 'running' condition.

My most valued toy was a Honda CM-250 Custom in near-immaculate condition, until some stupid blind driver turned out in front of me and wrote the poor girl off.

Other than that, i have my ps2 and psp (gettin a ps3 soon as the good games are on it, GAMER GEEK FOR LIFE!!), a katana i was given for my 18th and a 2nd curved-handled katana i bought in thailand, and my fish tank (its still a toy coz the fish are coming tomorrow). Oh, and the remote control submarine i use IN my fishtank.

I'd love to have a mosin nagant when i have time to shoot regularly, solely for the salute to russian engineering ('we dont have a sniper rifle... lets just put a telescope on this one and HEY LOOK AT THAT! Its accurate enough as is!') and the history (the gun that saved Stalingrad, or more dragged it out for so long). Other than that, i hope to get a Triumph Speed Triple in black or green (that 675 is one winning engine, and im a sucker for british engineering).

Thanks. I love this car. She has a 455 Stage 1 V8. 360hp@4600rpm, 510ft/pd of torque @ 2800rpm bored and stroke is 4.3125x3.900 and a 10.0:1 compression ratio. Thats factory specs. I've added dual Holly 4 barrel carbs, high performance exhaust and Thrush headers and a Hurst slam shifter, mated to a TH400 High Performance Transmission. all in all about $10,000 worth of performance parts.

Well their are no mustangs around here that people want to sell..what do you think about the new GT-500 KR though? you seem to be a muscle car enthusiast.so in your opinion would it be worth getting one?..or should I just stick to "elegant" and classy" vehicles...
Rhalellan
03-10-2007, 06:24
Well if you can afford the 50k+ price tag . . . I honestly like the KR, but I could never afford one. She seems like a real runner, but personally I would wait until someone road tests it. IMHO buying an old muscle car and fixing her up just seems to make the car more a part of me. If your not mechanically inclined there is no better way to learn :)

Unfortunately, the fanciest telescope is worth exactly jack if there isn't anything to look at. Escaping the almost unimaginable excess of electromagnetic pollution (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/10/Gluehbirne_2_db.jpg) emitted by this "civilization" thing would require trekking into only the most remote of wilderness. I'd probably look rather silly trying to stuff a big telescope into a backpack.

most people probably think of jet skis, scoots, or muscle s.u.v.s.

do hello kitty vibrators count? nope i don't have one, but they do exist and the thought is always good for a grin.

my toy, my life really, what there is left of it these days, is this thing. no not the vibrator i don't have, but this computer. and no i don't spend all my time with it bs'ing on the net either. not that i'm any sort of rocket scientest about these things. but i do use it to make pretty pictures with. and run transport infrastructure sims too. pictures of the kind of world i'd rather be living in. you can find them under the nome de net of themnax, and the nom de moggle/mundane of john teall. such places as biorust, look for themnax in the 3d section, biorust, picture trail, the old freewebs lananara site, and on vcl under the mundane name.

that's one of my 'adult toys'. i also make and opperate physical scale models, yes i'm a 'train nut'. there's a train in my garden, scratch build g-scale, to my own immaginary prototype. along with the more usual HO, and N, and a bit of HOnX, (what ever 9mm rails scale out to in 1/87th. somewhere arround 30 inches, but closer, according to my scale rule, to 34inches, just a hair under the three foot gauge which was once the most common narrow gauge in the western hemisphere)

as for the net, i've been modeming as long as there have been modems, and truely afordable personal computers. though there was a hiatus when i was living on the street during the very timeframe the internet was being born.

being a yank, my first pc that worked wan't a sinclare, but an ohio scientific, c1p. my first modem, back in the old pre internet days, was yes, i was there when the very first modems became available, well i remeber it was what was at that time called 300 baud. they all were at the very first. when we practically had to go to war with ma' bell to let us let our computers talk to each other over the phone lines.

hmm other 'adult toys' i've had, and developed minor degrees of creative skill with, well the first ones, when i was still in high school, included cameras and musical instruments. i was a brass player in band. and before there were even computers that worked that the average joe could get a hold of, and at least partially because i dreamed of such things and they weren't available yet, i built myself some paia (analog synth) modules, and when i was working and had a little chainge, a vox jaguiare (discrete transistor keyboar) to play through them. my amp consisted of my stereo with its cassette tape deck and a second playback only cassette drive to accompany myself. my mixer was one of the paia modules.

none of which i have any more, all that moving arround i did in my younger days will do that to you.

all i've got now is this computer and a few of my trains, that say sierra midland on them, my own name for an immaginary rail connection paralleling highway 49 in california.

well that and pencils and sketch pads. but really i do more 'art' on the computer then any way else, now that i have one.
