Basically this technology is a breath-testing machine in he car. You get tested, and the car will only start if you aren't over the limit.

Gross violation of freedom or the best thing since sliced bread?

a grand idea. I wouldn't mind buying a car equipped with this.

It's no violation of freedom. There is no right to drive; it's a privilege. This thing will prevent people from being a significant danger to others. It should be fitted to all cars.

I don't know about being required, but it definitely should be introduced and made available. Perhaps it could be required only for those who have had a DUI.

I could live with that.

not just DUI, but maybe those who are Alcoholics (who were lucky enough not to be caught with a DUI.)

Yes, that too.

How easy to install is this device anyway? And how much does it cost to produce?
Cannot think of a name

I thought this already existed and was fitted to cars where the driver had DUIs.

To put it on everyones car is a bit of a pain in the ass, especially with the chance of false readings. It's not so much about freedom, because technically it reduces my freedom to do something I don't have the freedom to do (drink and drive), but it does sort of treat me like a criminal and that ain't cool. I'm pretty serious about not drinking and driving, I don't need to prove it to my car every time I drive. That seems excessive.

But if you are someone who drinks and drives (and the only way we know this is to have caught you one or more times...) then by all means-you clearly have no sense and need your car to have some for you. Granted this would prevent the drunk driver in the first place, but...
