How 'Bout Those Mets? [American Baseball]

Could they have choked in a more spectacular way?
I don't think so. And it couldn't have happened to a more deserving guy. For all the hype about how Tom Glavine is a great guy, he still left the Braves for a few dollars more...

Still, the Philly's fans have to be ecstatic about the way the season ended. This has been the best year for the NL East in as long as I can remember.

I'm perfectly happy still knowing that my Yankees are in the playoffs. It would have been nice to have the Mets too. I'm sure Philly fans are engaged in homoerotic ecstacy at this point. Good for them though. They finished up strong and deserve to be champs.

I'm excited about the Padres and the Rockies going at it. This has been a dream year for Colorado, and it would be great to see them top it off with a playoff birth.

Yeah! Go Rockies! I was at the game last night. It was awesome. I think Troy (can't for the life of me spell his last name) deserves Rookie of the Year. I already have tickets for the the first Playoff home game.

I'm currently dealing with the psychological shocks inflicted upon my state in the form of four national second place finishes this year. I feel that it would almost be a mite bit of a joke if the Indians were to make their way to the World Series and lose.

I mean,

OSU Football - Lost to Florida in Title Game
OSU Basketball - Lost to Florida in Title Game
Cleveland Cavaliers - Lost to San Antonio in the Finals
Columbus Destoyers (Arena Football) - Lost to San Jose in Final

Not to mention that we have the Browns, the Crew and the Bluejackets, just to add insult to injury.

3 out of the 4 mentioned above I was glad to see happen...

As a yankees fan, I thought it was hilarious that the Mets cracked against a last place team like the Fins. Sorry, Willie. Lizzol.

Also, I'm pulling for the Rockies too. The Phils and Rockies in the playoffs? Most interesting matchup in a while.

At least you don't have a couple employees that were Florida grads. All I saw last winter was Florida, Florida, Florida...

By the way, I'm a Buckeye grad, too... Aero/Astro Engineering, Class of 1980.

Sweet, I know some of your newer Aero/Astro compatriots. They're doing some cool stuff.

I've been keeping up via the web and the alumni rag and you're right. Having the airport nearby has been quite a benefit and made the University one of the few real "airplane" schools in the country.

There are only two faculty left from my day... Dr Gregorek and Dr Foster. All the rest -- even the grad students -- seem to have moved on.

The Mets just enjoyed the second worst (worst defined as the most statistically unlikely) collapse in baseball history.

The "top" 3:

3: 1951 Brooklyn Dodgers. Missed the post-season despite 384-1 odds against as of August 12.

2: 2007 New York Mets. Missed the post-season despite 500-1 odds against as of Septmeber 12.

1: 1995 California Angels. Despite 8332-1 odds against as of August 20, with only 38 games left to play, they managed to give up a combined 24.5 games lead to BOTH the Yankees and Mariners.

You know, this is exactly what I love about baseball. It's so easy to quantify just about anything.

You made me laugh out loud -- Now my wife thinks I'm goofing off instead of balancing the checkbook.

I guess she's right, but it's your fault she found out.
