I live in Michigan.

I hope the state stays shut down. All the government is good for is flushing other people's money down the toilet. I hope the tax collectors have to have a bake sale.

It's going to be resolved by the state borrowing a boatload of money and making taxpayers pay it back with interest.

Michigan is not the first state government to shut down. The Minnesota state government recently shut down due to unresolved budget issues. State government shut downs have occured in the past, this is nothing new.

I live in Minnesota. It seemed like it took forever to get things back to normal and I think everyone was complaining about the fact that our legislators were still getting paid for NOT solving our budget problems.
Maybe if we dip into our surplus we can get the new I-35 bridge built a bit better too...
As for saving money by shutting down the federal government, it would cause more problems than it solves.

Just shut down the 4th Branch...

The Cheney Branch.

That'll eliminate MANY problems.

Boo-hoo. The budget is late by a few days. It means nothing compared to the routine of being a few months late that the California Legislature has.

Hey, for those of us to whom this doesn't normally happen to, it's annoying. Besides, if it's like MN, it's going to take a couple painstaking weeks.

Tell that to the DFL. All I've heard from Oberstar is gas tax hikes. Maybe if money weren't being flushed down the LRT drain and going to bike trails there'd be some cash left over to fix roads and bridges. They're not even trying to hide the fact that the train is a waste of money, they expect that no more than a third of the money needed to run the damn thing will come from riders. It's legacy legislation like that that's ruining our state and our country. Don't try to be a great man, just be a man and let history make its own judgements.

Well shutdown averted.
......Raised Income taxes
......Raised Sales Tax
......Added a tax on services(barbers, massages etc etc)

net result...taxpayers revolting,moving truck rentals booming,more foreclosures
last one out turn out the lights and put the closed sign out.....

And to those of you who said give Michigan to Canada...they're already here.
Governor Moleface Granholm is a former Canuckian.

How on earth does a government shutdown?

Typically when the house and senate can't decide on a budget so there's no money to spend on anything and everything has to halt until they pass a budget for funding. On top of that, these people that can't make up their minds on a budget get paid EXTRA for causing this problem.

As for those in Michigan who don't want to stay anymore, Minnesota Nice always applies!

Pfst, Minnesota has collapsing bridges. Come to Jersey, where all the bridges are kept safe by HAZMAT teams! The copper in the water isn't too bad when you get used to it.

Yes, head to Jersey, where you can slowly die of radiation poisoning! Out here in rural MN, we have a lot of copper in our water too. It actually isn't so bad, I'll agree with you there.

Michigan. All I read in the papers about how screwed up the government is. I suppose it's true.

*cough*stupid Senate*cough*

I really don't think it's Granholm. DeVos seems like the guy who would have architected this type of thing.
