Favorite Role-Playing Game?

My favorite is the Dying Earth RPG. It's based-off of some of my favorite books. It takes places far in the future, where the sun is going out, magic is rampant, and wordy swindles are everyday occurrences. The book that started the series it was based-off of was written in 1950. The magic system used in it was copied for D&D (where you forget spells once they are casted). A spell "The Excellent Prismatic Spray" was also copied, along with IOUN stones.

So now, what's your folks' favorite role-playing game?

It's not the game, but the group.

I've played in
Call of Chuthullu
Dungeons and Dragons
Marvel Super hero (Classic System)
Teenagers from outer space
DC Super Heroes
Harn
Pendragon
Vampire
Mage
Mechwarrior
Lace and Steel
Cyberpunk
a whole lot more

and some were good, some were bad but it depends on the group.

My Favorite character tho, is my Vampire: The Masqurade.

I like Guild Wars and Eve-Online. (I don't play the latter of the two very much anymore though.)

I've played in a great many systems; I think my favourite at the moment is HERO, because of it's flexibility and power.

As JuNii said, it is not the game, but the group.

To that end I enjoyed playing Neverwinter Nights on Dragonlance(based off the Dragonlance books) and Wheel of Time(based off Robert may-he-rest-in-peace Jordan's series) servers.

I also like Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind better than Oblivion. Though I may be biased because Oblivion runs so badly on my outdated computer.

Computer: Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn and the Throne of Bhaal Expansion
Tabletop: Definitely AD&D with the Forgotten Relams expansion.

I've played in
Call of Chuthullu <--- Played the d20 version of that
Dungeons and Dragons <--- Played the d20 version of that
Marvel Super hero (Classic System) <--- Am running the new system of that on http://pnpo.roguemediapro.com/forum
Teenagers from outer space
DC Super Heroes <--- DC sucks
Harn
Pendragon
Vampire <--- Played
Mage <--- Played
Mechwarrior
Lace and Steel
Cyberpunk <--- Played, assuming you mean Shadowrun
a whole lot more <--- Ayep

and some were good, some were bad but it depends on the group.

My Favorite character tho, is my Vampire: The Masqurade.

Deadlands, a wild-west style RPG
Spycraft d20
GURPS
And, for my sins, Amber

My favorite is probably either Deadlands.

I favour most of Squares RPG games on the consoles, so like the final fantasies, kingdom hearts, legend of dragoon, and so on.

On the computer I occasionally play KOTOR and Guild Wars.

I am not into the table top kind, since I have never played one, so I cannot answer that.

For pen and paper games, it's a tie between Rifts and D&D 3rd ed (although I'd like to try 3.5 as soon as I can find a group).

For MMO's, it'd have to be CoH/CoV.

I'll agree. Anything by Square Enix is really good. I'm especially into Kingdom Hearts II.
I can't really comment on PC games because I own a Mac and most won't run on here. Notable exceptions are World of Warcraft, but that's more of an MMO than a standard RPG.

Well, just about anything from Square Enix is great. I also think Morrowind is excellent, it's just so open ended and easy to modify and add content.

Of course there's definitely a lot of great games, but those are the first that come to mind.

As for some of my favorite games from Square Enix:

Chrono Cross/Trigger
Valkyrie Profile
Any Final Fantasy
Mario RPG (that was my first RPG)

I liked Fable for a while until I played for like a few hours, didn't explore 1/10th of the game, and was 65 years old in it so then I gave up because the clock was obviously screwy.

Fable really isn't too bad a game, it just wasn't amazing, and it was too short.

Also, I don't think age has a major factor in gameplay (if any), I think it only affects appearance.

Apparently you're supposed to buy a house, get married, etc but I barely had time to complete a few quests before I was old and gray.

As Junii put it quite succintly, it really depends on the group. That is after all the nature of role-playing; an activity almost completely suspended by social dynamics. Anyhow for this reason I don't really have a favourite system, as the system is really an afterthought. Really it comes to gamestyles and settings. I like playing Late rennaissance steampunkish urban adventures, modern noir, and cyberpunk especially, though there is fun to be had in all settings.

Mine too! :) I barely remember it, but I know I liked it. Fun times.

That's the only one I've played, but I've enjoyed watching others play the Final Fantasy games, Ocarina of Time, and Fable. Real-time is more my thing, but RPG is fun too.

Morrowind. Loved the voices, the premise, the freedom. It was WAY more stable than Oblivion and just FELT more fantasty-ish, a feeling Oblivion only managed to get back with the Shivering Isles, which were BRILLIANT.
I love Sheogorath. He's the best demon ever.

I have to say the old d6 Star Wars RPG -it is by far my favorite (the d20 version just isnt nearly as good).

if I had to choose a d20, I would go with Rifts just because of the sheer variety you can squeeze out of it.

Life sucks, you don't get any special powers or skills, and if you run around in chain mail or animal hide wielding a medieval weapon, the men in white will come and lock you away.

In Pen&Paper format, all those years ago, I remember playing:

D&D/AD&D, Traveller, Call of Cthulhu, Gamma World, some superhero-based one whose name escapes me, Tunnels and Trolls, various incarnations of GURPS, Star Wars, Star Trek, Cyberpunk, Paranoia and TMNT.

I'm sure there were more, but the others obviously didn't make much of an impression on me.

Which was 'best'? It's a tough question, and not just because it depended so much on which particular people were present for any given session. The guys who ran most of the AD&D, Traveller and Call of Cthulhu campaigns that I played in were superb, so they would all be right up there.

However, just for the sheer fun factor, I think I'd have to go for Paranoia...

I've never managed to find a group, but from my armchair position, I'm seriously interested in:

Paranoia
Nobilis
Wushu
WFRP

I have a solid interest in Steampunk, but I don't know of any games set in the period. And not really a roleplay game, but I also like Inquisitor.

I played an Intelligence Commando from the NGR, and (IMO) he rocked. He was the only SDC/non supernatural being in the party, but his damage potential was awesome, as he also had a Dragonwing.

Vampire: the Masquerade. Well, the whole World of Darkness kit and kaboodle, second edition. I tried to give third edition a chance but totally despise the complete re-set and changing of the world. (I bought the WoD sourcebook, Chicago sourcebook, Ordo Dracul, Vampire: the Requiem, and Werewolf: the Forsaken and read through all of them cover to cover before realizing that with the exception of the Chicago sourcebook, I think they're drek.)

What have I played/ is on my bookshelf?

Traveller
Marvel Super-Heroes (classic)
Star Trek (FASA)
Star Wars (West End Games)
DC Heroes
GURPS
Vampire: the Masquerade
Werewolf: the Apocalypse
Mage: The Ascension
Changeling
Villains and Vigilantes
AD&D 2nd Edition
Lost Souls
Indiana Jones (TSR)
Serenity (got the book, never played yet)
Boot Hill
Top Secret
Starfleet Battles (though that's not really RP, it's what got me introduced to all this jazz)
Rifts
Shadowrun
Teenagers from Outer Space
Robotech
Mechwarrior
Space 1889

On Computer:
Diablo I and II
NWN 1 (and the expansions)
NWN 2
KOTOR
Guild Wars
Vampire: The Masquerade -- Bloodlines
Morrowind (never really got into it though)
All the Jedi Knight games.

Um, yeah, I've gamed... a little. ;)

Without question - temporal warrior.
My fav rifts character was amazing. I was a late entry to the campaign and the other players had high powered characters, I talked the GM into letting me be an Atlantean instead of human. Given a multiverse character like that, I was allowed to mix n match my equipment from any sourcebook I wanted - I kicked so much ass even the dragon started to complain about my 'beginning' character killing everything before they had a chance.

Being able to manipulate the flow of time can be used to great effect, and the dimensional magic was fun - especially being able to step out into your own little pocket of reality to reload, use a can of armor repair, switch around your gear, etc, then jump back into the fight. Combine that with the weapons prowess and massive firepower, and temporal warriors are, IMHO, unequalled in their potential. Of course there are serious drawbacks to it... like massive psychological damage inherent with serving a demonic entity for years to learn how to become a 4th dimensional being, but ya know, everything has a trade-off.

Then there was a campaign just for fun, where I was a temporal wizard. I had a big coat and put lots of dimensional pockets in the pockets, and traveled around the multiverse just going on adventures with my companions... err... I mean the other PCs. I even picked up a long scarf and snacked on jellybabies. The GM and I had an understanding - I was to help the plots along and was given great leeway to have lots of fun. If I got in trouble I was usually able to just reach in a pocket and pull out some random stuff which might be useful - the effect of having infinite pockets full of plot devices.
