My question is simple, have you seen it, and if so what did you think? I recently did and I found it quite illuminating on the nature of US hegemony and interference in Latin America.

No, but I did see the review on "At the Movies" yesterday, and I have seen plenty of films by Pilger before.

I don't think I'll go out of my way to see it, because I'm afraid it will be a rather one-sided affair. Like Margaret and David said: "Like Michael Moore, but without any of the humour". And I'm afraid that unlike with "Sicko", I can't even find a little bit of sympathy in principle for the cause.

So you support a class a nut for president who does not care at all about the Constitution?
Neu Leonstein

Why is that?
Because the US Healthcare system is broken to the extent that a nationalised one is probably more likely to improve things than leaving Washington to try and reform it - reforms need politicians capable of making viable compromises.

You know my stance on Chavez, I consider him the next Mugabe in the making, and I feel sorry for those who will have to live through it.

The issue of the CIA and the US bringing down governments - fair enough, I could sympathise with that cause. But I have gotten very sensible to anti-American rhetoric these days. There used to be a time when I was quite happy with it, but by now it just annoys me - particularly when there's little but more rhetoric to back it up.

Haha, if I had space in my signature, that would go straight in there.

The only two issues on which I have ever agreed with Bush were his opposition to his party's tantrums at that Arab company buying US ports and his opposition to his party's tantrums on illegal immigration.

There may or may not be some other things in which we both think in parallel ways, but those aren't policies or anything that would make me want to support him over some other guy.

It's indeed such a shame to see the right-wing oligarch-apologists intentionally delude themselves by hiding from the facts so their neatly arranged worldview (in which poor people are poor because they're stupid and rich people rich because they're smart) remains unchallenged and they don't have to deal with those 'petty uneducated dregs of society', instead they can drive their BMW's and watch their stocks soar. It's telling given the evidence that documentary I have posted gives, yet this thread has been spammed and those right-wing nuts have tried to hijack it to divert their fragile ego's from having to view materialistic truth apart from their 'capitalist fantasy world'. This documentary shows rightly how heroes like Chavez, Morales, Ortega etc have taken back the resources of their countries for the common people, and not pandered to the Washington elite.

Remember, when you confront a right-winger with the truth - your insulting his ego, so the only way he can reply is with personal attacks like IDF and his MTAE friends now banned.

I'm not going to respond to the knee-jerk, misinforming, and delusional rant of the first half of this post. It's kinda lulzy in its absolute absurdity but getting old.

All that you've confronted anyone with in the last few months is propaganda. That you treat it as fact and seem to buy your own sermon is fast losing its funny. Who is MTAE?

FFS, man, you sound like a parody. They can drive their BMW's and watch their stocks soar. Can you hear yourself? You're like a caricature. I have a soft-spot for socialism, but you're making it really hard to admit that. Instead of just spurting insults and worn-out stereotypes, try posting some statistics and posing a reasonable question or argument without insulting those you're trying to debate.

Strange because the last time we were involved in a discussion about Chavez, I posted a link (the exact same one as Arridia as a matter of fact) to the video and you said you had watched it. *shrug*

I too am all too aware of Pilger's leanings, and was aware of that when I saw the film. I tend to disregard what he said and concentrated more so on what the interviewees said - people who benefited and suffered under Chavez, ex-CIA Station Chiefs for Latin America, victims (US born victims too I might add) of rape and death squads in Central America, victims of Pinochet's camps and so on.

If you haven't seen it or the points raised, how people can dismiss it offhand is beyond me.

Well at least some of you people admit to being prejudiced.

As a side note, I might add that Morales "expropriated" the gas wells not from western firms, but from Petrobras, if I recall.

Oh, and I finally got a car, it's a twelve year old Toyota Camry. Quite nice, gets good gas mileage. But, it's definitely not a Beemer.

Define "right-winger"? Some unfortunate soul whose mind doesn't function exactly like your defective one, and thus contrasts with your notion of the clerisy? Ergo, you are the paragon of intellect? Your vanity peeves me. And why do you assume you are well possessed of veracity? The universe is mutable, there is no cause for the hurling of vituperation against your fellows.

Meh. I'd rather watch something which challenged my views than a one-sided propaganda piece, which I just nod all of the way through.

Your intellectual mileage may differ, however.

I have a bit of a beef with First World socialists who attempt to speak for Latin America. What is the difference between some North American imposing a free market economy and some North American imposing a socialist economy? From a Latino's perspective, I bet it's very little. I think I get more annoyed at the hippies who want to 'help' Latin America than I do at the capitalists who want to own it.

Whatever. Just one question: how much money are the director and producers making off this flick? It would be interesting to know that leftists are also making money off the suffering of Latin America.

Oh, I thought it was a link to that other movie made by two Irish guys about the coup attempt. I watched that one.

I'm sorry, I'll be more careful next time.

But if it's only now coming to the cinemas in Oz...how long has it been out?
