What's so bad about pedophilia?

Just so the moderators know: I am not, I repeat, not supporting sex offensiveness in any way, shape or form. However, the way it is treated confuses me.

Although I can think of plenty of worse crimes (murder, for example), none seem to have the same social stigma attached as molesting a child does. Furthermore, sex offensiveness themselves are usually beyond the control of the person who is a sex offender. That's not to say that they are not able to control it, or that they should be excused for how they behave, but if someone was, say, schizophrenic and they killed someone, I think that would at least be taken into consideration when measuring his or her worth as a human.
So, I would like to ask again: please, do not defend sex offenses, just as I am not defending it. I know it's bad. I'm just wondering why it's that bad.

Not entirely about pedophilia, but about as close as mine is. If it helps, I will replace the word pedophilia with "sex offender", as I am really more interested in the legal and social stigma that has, not the condition itself.

pedophilia is not illegal. Nor is it equal to child molestation. I think no less of a pedophile who is able to control himself, and not molest children. It is only when pedophiles act on their urges and molest children are they commiting a crime.

Furthermore, [size="1"]sex offensiveness themselves are usually beyond the control of the person who is a sex offender. That's what separates us from animals. We don't act on every impulse, we control ourselves. If you really couldn't control yourself, then you couldn't learn how to read. If they really can't control themselves, logic (not justice mind you) states that they are unfitting members of society. They can't be released if they can't control themselves, and I don't want to support them. Therefore, termination becomes logical.

Now for some humor on beings that can't control themselves (Cugel has just stabbed a bandit that was trying rob, kill, and possibly eat him. He then threw a large rock on said bandit and maimed him):

Cugel came cautiously forward. "Since you face death, tell me what you know of hidden treasure."
"I know of none," said the bandit. "Were there such you would be the last to learn, for you have killed me."
"This is no fault of mine," said Cugel. "You pursued me, not I you. Why did you do so?"
"To eat, to survive, though life and death are equally barren and I despise both equally."
Cugel reflected. "In that case you need not resent my part in the transition which you now face. The question regarding hidden valuables again becomes relevant. Perhaps you have a final word on this matter?"

That's very easy. We humans are biologically hard wired to protect our offspring.

And child molestation has serious psychological ramifications for the victim.

Though pedophiles have been known to argue that those ramifications are the result of society demonizing the acitvity.

Is that why all the pedophiles left?

There is? Since when?

Since the rash of pedophilia threads a while back in which people began abusing their privilege of discussing the topic.

Is that why all the pedophiles left?

I doubt they all left. There's just not much room to discuss the topic anymore, sadly. I don't have any problem with discussing the issue, and it's unfortunate that some people had to go and ruin that possibility for everyone else.
