SF/Bay Area Meet Up Oct 20

Erastide

Hey everyone. I've made some executive decisions based on the fact that I've been so absorbed by school duties I haven't taken the time to sit down and poke people before this. So... Meet details.

When: October 20th (Saturday)
Time: 12pm - whenever (I assume ~ 9pm)
Where: Golden Gate Park Baseball diamonds Map (http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?hl=en&ie=UTF8&msa=0&msid=100203061711688219157.00043ad2e9477947ac1fd&ll=37.765312,-122.465318&spn=0.005632,0.00854&t=h&z=17&om=1http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?hl=en&ie=UTF8&msa=0&msid=100203061711688219157.00043ad2e9477947ac1fd&ll=37.765312,-122.465318&spn=0.005632,0.00854&t=h&z=17&om=1http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?hl=en&ie=UTF8&msa=0&msid=100203061711688219157.00043ad2e9477947ac1fd&ll=37.765312,-122.465318&spn=0.005632,0.00854&t=h&z=17&om=1)
What to bring: Yourself. Money. FOOOOOD (Potluck for lunch) I'll bring a cooler for people to put things if if they'd like. PLEASE say what you're bringing so we don't end up with endless desserts. >_>

Now... I assume that after a few hours we'll be moving on, perhaps downtown to restaurants, perhaps somewhere else. So if you're not able to make it until like 4-5ish, you might want to share your cell phone number with one of the attendees so you can get told where to go.

Also, if it's crappy weather (raining) the day of, there's a nice cafe on the corner of Lincoln and 9th that we could meet in. I marked it on the map.

Transportation:
Car: Assuming you're on I-80, take the Central Freeway (101 N) exit and then the Fell St off ramp. You will continue on city streets until you are forced to turn left onto Fell street. Follow Fell to the park, it dumps you onto Lincoln St. (Look at a map first so you know what you're doing. :p) There's parking in the park and on the streets around it, although you'll probably have to hunt for a bit depending on when you arrive.

Mass Transit: The N-Judah (SF Muni) is the best thing to take from downtown. You can catch the Muni at any of the downtown BART stations.

Carpool: I'll be coming from Treasure Island, so if people in the city need pickups I can probably manage that. Or CToaN might volunteer his services too.

Attending:
Erastide (Ceasar Salad)
Gasponia (Chocolate Cake)
MonteOzarka
ZetaOne

Definite Maybes:
Moo-Cows with Guns

Actually, the alcohol will be coming later. Or I'll be bringing some cider. Either way, Gaspo is driving me home so I don't have to worry ^_^

I thought only really did mojitos, and that you just had cider in the in the UK as pubs have no idea what you're on about.

But it all sounds good now. And remember to take pictures and us Brits want to know what the rest you yanks think of our comments on the holy book.

Oh, and isn't Turquoise Days coming to this meet?

I'll definitely have to miss this one: tentatively moving day is November 1.

October 20? I thought Halloween was a big deal out in SF/Oakland. Why not push the date back a few days and come in costume?

Or just come in costume, anyway.

I'm new to NationStates, but this meetup is so close to where I live, I'd consider showing up. Haven't made up my mind yet, though. If I do, I'll being beer. That's a dessert, right?

The dates are for when Gaspo is in town. If people want to get dressed up on the 20th, I'm sure it wouldn't matter in SF. :p

I see. In SF, anyway, would a costume be noticed as out of the ordinary?

One ancedote about the bay area...
When I used to live on that coast, I did the Bay-to-Breakers run regularly. Strangest thing I ever saw was the group of naked guys that ran past me on the way to the Golden Gate park.

SF would be a great place to live if the prices weren't so high and there weren't so many laws about what one can't do.

I'm a definite maybe again. As with the last time, my schedule is up in the air-had you asked me if I was going to be free today yesterday morning I would have said yes, and that would have been a dirty dirty lie.

But I did meet the US Olympic Synchronized Swimming Team. My job might suck a little and pay even less, but it has its perks.

I'm a definitely maybe - its either Amtrak or flights from San Diego, so some research is clearly needed. If I do come, I might bring a friend! A real live non-NSer...

I can definately not attend this one. If I have the time at all, I'm attending the OK one. I swear I'll make it to one of these events. Definately the Seattle one whenever that is.

I tried to get a Seattle one together but no one seemed interested. Not enough people up here on NSG?

I'm in, assuming that I don't suddenly have HW issues. I'll be bringing my own stuff, since I've still got my ridiculous dietary restrictions. :P

I anticipate showing up between 12:30 & 1, though. Can't get there any sooner via public trans, because my college shuttle doesn't start before 11 on Saturdays. I may manage to convince one of my friends to come too. She's just restarted NS, so who knows...

How bad do I suck? This bad...

I didn't realize that this weekend was the same weekend that the American Le Mans Series is at Laguna Seca. Pretty much my favorite style of racing (endurance sports cars) at my favorite track.

So, if I have enough money and I don't get any work that weekend I'm totally going to that.

If I don't have enough money and don't get any work I can still drag my broke ass to this...ain't I swell? Yeah...I know...

Of course if there is work I gotta take it.

But I'd be the only Generalite there anyway, so it's not like anyone there would know who the hell I was.
Erastide
04-10-2007, 03:07
I would know! >_>

Sad to hope you'd have no money, but I shall do that. :p
Raistlins Apprentice
12-10-2007, 00:11
I would know too!

And my friend won't be coming.

Waaaaah, is anyone from last time coming besides me and Erastide? (Pyth and CTOAN don't count since they're maybes as far as I can tell. And CTOAN seems unlikely, to boot).
*sniff*
Oh well, at least Erastide WILL be coming. And there should be some awesome new people. ^_^

I shall hope that CTOAN has money, but not enough to choose to go to the other thing. And that he will have lots of work, but not on Oct 20th.

So, I've been having an awesome time with Gaspo in town, I even had dinner cooked for me. ^_^

Hopefully some of you other people will actually show up on Saturday at the ball fields or send me your number if you'll be lateish.

You know, you'd think I'd know if I was going to be there by now or not. But I just now finally got paid from a gig I did last month and am doing a bit of math on whether or not I can make that race. I probably can't, but you know...

So, we had an awesome time yesterday, 6 people again.
Attendees:
Callisdrun
Erastide
MonteOzarka (MO)
ZetaOne
Raitslins Apprentice
Gasponia

Brief synopsis, before the flood of pics that will be forthcoming starts:
Gaspo and I woke up around 7am, started to get ready by baking the cake, making croutons for the ceasar salad, and generally get a bunch of food ready to take. However, I discovered while making the ceasar salad dressing that I had gotten sardines instead of anchovies. >.< MO called from the CalTrain station and said she planned to go to the Safeway for some food. Around 10:30ish, Zeta showed up, and we sent him in to get Donna, anchovies, and ice. (Plan was to take his car in case we got drunk, Gaspo could drive us home)

By the time they got back, the salad got made and the cake had been iced (to the best of my ability), we packed everything up and managed to leave by about... 12:15pm. The 4 of us drove into the park, managed to find some parking, and wandered into the park onto the baseball benches. Raistlins Apprentice came up and we said hello and sat down to eat. We then realized we had forgotten to actually bring utensils to eat with. We also forgot about anything to drink. :headbang: Gaspo went across to the Shell station and bought us plates, utensils, and napkins. Later on Callisdrun wandered up and asked if we were the NS people. We enjoyed salad, fried chicken, pigs in a blanket, cheese, and finally an insane chocolate cake. Then Gaspo and I went *back* to the Shell and picked up drinks for everyone. After that monstrosity of a cake we lounged on the benches attempting to digest it.

At about 3:30ish, we decided it was time to get a move on. Callisdrun said he needed to get back downtown so he took Muni. The other 5 of us drove down to Ghiradelli Square and ordered the Earthquake Sundae (8 scoops of ice cream and 8 toppings). I dragged MO to the bathroom, which took us awhile to find and then had quite a long line. By the time we got back (15 min at least), the sundae had arrived. Apparently though, it had melted too much by the time it got there and they said they would bring us a new one. But we got to keep the old one. So we had $50 worth of sundae and 16 scoops of ice cream. Between 4 people (Raistlins Apprentice bowed out). And we managed.... almost all of it. The 1st one had all the large sections of ice cream finished off, but some had completely melted by the time we were done. Before and after pics were taken, they'll be up in a bit.

After the ice cream we needed to walk some of it off (and not sit in the car for awhile), so we wandered down the waterfront to just past Pier 39, where there was a little kiddie playground. We enjoyed the slides, playing on climbing bits, and a little garden house. After it started to get a bit cold (and dark), we made our way back to the car. We dropped Raistlins Apprentice off at the BART station and then went back to my place. There we proceeded to dink around on NS. And watch Carebears and My Little Pony. :D MO attempted to go home at about 10:30, but upon waking up this morning I discovered her downstairs on the couch, apparently she the bus never came. So Zeta and MO have left now, and Gaspo leaves tomorrow.

All in all, a really awesome meetup, thanks everyone. :)

Damn, I could have ended up at Casa de Erastide instead of burning the hell out of my right arm?

And what is it with our meet ups and playgrounds?

Sounds like good times...If you all plan to do it again I'll try and make it, as long as you don't schedule it during a race ;p

Dragged MO to the bathroom... took at least 15 mins.... Hey, you two had sex!

Glad you all had such a good time. Did you have the book to add comments to?

Wrong part of the state. That fire is about 6 hours away from us if we hustle.

It's too bad on the date of the meetup. I'm moving to the Bay Area at the end of this month... I'm much closer than anybody knows. I am going to SF in November to celebrate my birthday with my best friend who's birthday is on the same day as mine.

It was pretty cool, though I felt quite nerdy understanding some of the jokes that were made. That's okay though, I've been a nerd for a long time. My only regret is not being able to stay longer. Weekends home are always so hectic.
