Yeah, as we all know, abundance in natural resources is the first most important thing toward becoming a superpower! I'm moving to Congo.
Iceland is doing the right thing of course. Their small size and their already widespread use of alternative energy makes them a good place to experiment with this, and I am sure they will benefit. Hopefully other countries will follow their lead with better, more proven technology. I salute the early adopters.

There's always a downside. Not only is not everywhere blessed with hot springs that can be used for power, specific locations can cool over time. Geothermal also provides less than half of one percent of the worlds energy, so it's not very abundant.

When you mean it "provides less than half of one percent of the worlds energy" do you mean that of all the energy generated on Earth, geothermal is less than half a percent, or that < .5% of the energy we use is geothermal?
If its the latter, all we have to do is get around to harnessing it.

Fortunatly, Iceland is not as pro-immigrant as the rest of Europe..and is still, atleast somewhat retaining a homogenous community instead of the newly favored Multi-cultural community that is unfortunatly devolping in Europe.
However, there are some problems with Slavic immigration to Iceland.

Thats cool. I still don't see why we haven't put any decent thought into colonising the sea. It makes up 70% of the earths surface, is effectively a 3D platform for expansion and colonisation, and is somewhat insulated from the damaging effects of pollution in the atmosphere. If we were to cut the strings and rape Earth completely, the deepest recesses of the ocean would still be relatively unchanged and quite a decent place for us to take refuge.
