Heroes- which power would you want?

So I just watched most of the first season of Heroes for the first time. I know there was a thread on this before a while ago, which I didn't really read because at that point I had never seen it.

So I'm making a thread about it and asking which power you would have if you could choose from the ones seen in the show.

I'd choose Linderman's power of healing things most likely. That could do a lot of good. Mind-reading like Parkman's power would also be cool, and so would Micah's power of making machines work. My brother said he'd want Micah's power, and my dad said he'd like to fly like Nathan Petrelli best.

So which would you choose?

Well, my favorite power is the ability to negate all forces on yourself, I dreamed that one up though. If I had to pick from one of the one's from Heroes, I'd pick the cheerleader's power (I don't remember the names very well).

But still, the ability to negate forces, you could be invincible and sort of hover! It would be awesome!

I want to ability to fast forward, rewind, and freeze time. But straight up time travel wouldn't be bad either. Especially with the added bonus of freezing time.

Time traveling. The other powers are nice, but time traveling gives you so much more power over everything that the other powers are essentially negated.

What's Heroes, by the way?

I'm voting fire but I'd love to be able to read peoples' minds. Fire is just cool and you don't need to read someone's mind to light them on fire :).

You know, I almost put "regenerating/healing" and then I almost put "reading minds." But I opted for time travel/freezing.

I dunno, in reality would I really want to be removed from real life so much? Seems like you'd never be able to connect with regular people again.

Regenerating myself/Healing others..
If that was already taken by another superhuman hero thing, I would choose 'walking through things'. That is complete freedom right there, even moreso than being able to fly.

Radiation.

Washington, Washington, ten stories high, made of radiation.

Who wouldn't want to be able to shoot gamma ray bursts into your enemies?!

Being able to take on the powers of others would be cool. Though the coolest I think I'd like was from the Wild Card series of books, that of the character named "The Turtle"... He was a tiny little wimp physically, but had Dark Phoenix level Telekinesis... He called himself "Turtle" because to protect himself, he traveled around in a Volkswagon beetle hulk with battleship armor attached to the outside that he moved around with his telekinetic power.

If we ban the cheap "empathy" power of being able to get any power of any person close to you, I would go with Hiro's power: manipulation of time and space at will.

Oh... tough choice.

Micha's power of controlling electronic devices is neat and would make my job easier.

Claire's Regeneration ability is also cool.

but Hana Gitelman's ability was so far the most impressive... the human computer.

but given all that... I'll take Peter Petrelli's ability to steal powers then I can just collect them.

With sufficient control and an ample power source, assimilating powers would be the best. Practically unlimited talents!! Other than that, I'd say being a high level mage (Dr. Fate, Dr. Strange), or magic imbued hero (Captain Marvel, DC version).

Then there's Hyperstorm. That guy was a mortal made god. Being able to manipulate quantam forces on any level...

I'm happy to have no powers. Temptation to use them for personal gain is a fact of life, and some of the most dangerous people in the world have no powers so to speak.

P.S. A fist fight between Thompson and Claude would be an absolute comedy gold mine.

Being a Peter-Petrelli-style super-sponge is obviously the best, since it inherently includes all the others, but excluding that (since I think it's kinda lame), I'd probably go with Hiro's time travel. Especially if I get a sword. :p

Definitely time travel/freezing because then I could fuck with people and they would never know

I'd probably go with some form of biological manipulation. That ends up encompassing healing/regeneration as well as degeneration and disease creating. If you could create a quick spreading disease but control where it was or simply shut down an opponent's vital organs you wouldn't have much resistance after a few examples. Of course, that works in reverse too. Cures for anything from the common cold to cancer to unknown diseases. Healing someone nearly instantly after a heart attack, stroke, or even a bullet would if you know what you're doing.
However there is a flip side that Gauthier brought up. There would be an extreme temptation to use any power. If you're going to get something like this, let's hope you have good self control.

The power I would really want is Teleportation. It would be awesome to not have to worry, ever, about being late to class, or about gas prices, and to be able to travel around the world wherever I wanted whenever I wanted. Also, theoretically, I could lose weight by teleporting everything but the fat in my body somewhere, leaving it to drop messily to the floor wherever it was. (yeah, it's probably a bad idea, but...)

Well of course being able to steal or absorb the powers of others would be the best. However besides that I'd have to go with invisibility like the character played by Christopher Eccleston in a few episodes. Though I have to admit time travel/freezing would be cool too.

If there was no Taking power from others in the option, i would have chosen Fire and Radiation.

Fire is cool!!! And it is kinda unfair that Peter Petrelli can get all the power without killing and others can't.

The obvious choice would be Peter's power, which is to have every other power. However, I don't think I would pick that, for fear that I would become a greasy idiot like Peter. Maybe that's the karmic trade off; you get awesome superpowers at the expense of any intellect you may once have possessed.

Among these, time manipulation.

If other powers are allowed, space manipulation and dimensional travel. Traveling to other dimensions would grant me access to artifacts that could easily emulate the other powers.

Peter Petrelli's ability of copy powers is great in the Heroes universe, but not quite so good around here (AFAIK no powers to copy). Time travel is a little scary (it would suck if I accidentally changed time so Hitler won WW2), so I'd pick telekinesis like what the first guy Sylar killed had.

Which begs the question - why didn't Peter Petrelli just fly himself into space when he went nova? It was the first Power he acquired. I really enjoyed the series, but that point made the climax rather disappointing for me.

As for non-Heroes Powers, I'd go for the ability to control energy - pretty much encompasses most other abilities (invisibility, flight, teleportation, healing, telekinesis...).

Yes, but in the Heroes universe you would have to be a desperately ugly, catastrophically stupid, and socially inept loser who manages to fail at pretty much everything despite having every single superpower you want.

Have I mentioned that Peter Patrelli sucks?

this is something I have discussed at length with my husband who is apparently a professional Heroes apologist, the current excuse/theory/BS is that maybe he couldn't control other powers while out of control of the nuclear explosion thingy happening to him.....

Why? I didn't list "white dude" as one of the power-sucking-dude's features.

Peter's ethnicity is the only neutral thing about him, really. Everything else about him is either beyond awesome (his superpowers) or beyond awful (all other features).

Pretty much. after all, can you cook a meal and drive at the same time? Remember his "training" he was getting from Invisiblity man... he has to concentrate to access each power. so he had to stop trying to contain the nuclear power in him to access flight.
