Well, not that quite devastating but still...

Hopefully whatever is ailing the villagers is terrestrial in origin. If not, then we are going to be facing another shitstorm on top of what we have in the world as it is.

So... you need to make another one? There was one titled something like "The Colour Out of Space", and another about Zombies related to the meteor, and then just a normal news post.

Only found the Colour thread after you mentioned it. And the only Zombies one I saw was the general What If? thread.

Unfortunately all the evidence so far points to high sulfur content in the meteor interacting with terrestrial water to create the noxious fumes that caused investigators to become sick. Not that I'd prefer some sort of extraterrestrial super-virus or something, but it'd at least be more interesting.

Still that's a sigh of relief relatively speaking. Given that the world at large has trouble dealing with numerous terrestrial diseases as it is- AIDS near the top of the most famous list- having a true alien invasion in the form of a microbial epidemic would really be a damper.
