What's your car?

Edwinasia

Currently I'm driving a Renault Megane cabrio.

It's a very beautiful car, it looks good and expensive, but the quality is average.

The build-in speakers are weak, the engine noise is hard, the used paint isn't of high quality as well.

But hey, it's French, I can't expect more.

It's also not a speed monster, maybe due it's a cabrio, which means extra weight.

So, what's yours? And please add a picture. :)

Mildly disappointing for someone who used to race, but it gets me about, and it's reasonably nippy. Fun enough on country roads.

Looks very European. What's the brand and type?

Our roads are like that about 4-5 months out of the year.

That's one thing I miss about living in France, winter was so much milder. I moved there in February (I came back to Michigan in June) and it snowed once the whole time I was there, and that was only for about 5 minutes. When I lived in Germany it snowed a bit, but not nearly as much as it does here.

Of course, when I lived in France I didn't care about how slippery the roads were because I took the bus everywhere. I can't wait until I can move back.

no, that was your first car, this is your current car.

Right now I drive one of these.

mine isn't that color though.

It gets about 27mpg which is better than my Jeep got but it doesn't have as much cargo room and I am debating moving to somewhere it doesn't snow this winter.

I had one of these for a few months, because my kid was on me about global warming......but it was freaking annoying so I gave it to my husband and bought myself something nicer.

I drive a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 4x4 RCSB (with the 4.8l V8 engine and automatic transmission), in dark charcoal metallic. Upgrades that have been done to it are:

aluminum truck box in the bed
Polk Audio db460 4x6 speakers in the b-pillars
small door dings, scratches, and a 3-4" dent in the bed floor

A picture will have to wait for another time, as I currently don't have any to show (that, and my truck is pretty dirty, so it needs to be washed first).

I haven't had any problems. I've ridden my Harley 14,500 miles in 8 months and have had nothing but three routine maintenance calls. I also have a 4 year, unlimited mileage warrenty. No other manufacturer has anywhere near that kind of warranty that I am aware of and I've looked.

Harley's reputation suffers from two things.

1. The period from the late 60s through 1981 when they were owned by AMF when their bikes were so bad that they had to lay cardboard down on the floors of their showrooms to suck up the oil they leaked overnight. Because of this, Davidson's grandson got an $81 million loan from Citibank, went on tours of Japanese car manufacturing plants to learn about quality and bought the company back. Since then Harley's have been amongst the best made bikes in the world.

2. The Hardley Davidsons. My friend has a Hardley Davidson. He bought his Harley Big Twin on Ebay, the frame from a friend. Most of the rest from swap meets, etc... and built it in his garage. He's always fixing his. No one I know who bought a store bought Harley has any real problems with them.

Ducatis always tended to be beautifully designed but let down by shoddy electrics and outsourced components. The 851 had a fuel injection system that refused to work more than two weeks at a time, the out and out sports bikes were far more highly tuned than the ST2 so tended to be tempramental. That said, I'd still rather ride a dodgy Ducati than a perfect Honda.

What's funny is that Honda has this great reputation and, at least from the few people I know who ride them, they have a lot of problems. I know about 20 people with Harleys. About 10 with Triumphs. A few with Kawasakis, Hondas and Beamers and one person with a Ducati, two if I count you, and the Hondas seem to have more problems than anyone else I know.

I like to goad the college kids in my town into trying to race me near places where I know cops hang out. Many of these college kids have Mustangs, Camaro's, things like that (Michigan being home to the US auto industry and all) and thus feel slighted when a little Japanese car revs it's engine near them at a stop light. When they tear ass down the street I just drive normally. I can generally get one or two people pulled over every 3 weeks.

the only american car i've driven was one of those. i think it was a more recent model though. pretty comfortable and powerful enough.

my car is a 1996 VW Polo 1.4CL. i like the engine note, from inside it sounds way more powerful than it is, really throaty like. it's fairly nippy but it has too much body roll to be really fun round corners, i prefer my sister's 1 litre citroen saxo for that. but mine is very comfortable for cruising for a small car and it can be fun on twisty roads if i'm prepared to thow it about and deal with the roll.

Unlucky dude. I only get to drive my dad's 1.8 Toyota Carina. It's far too large to be remotely practical, and I'm saving up to get my own car, but nonetheless, a 1.8 engine is a hoot, and it handles well enough to make ragging country lanes fun.

Still, the insurance is £100 a month.:(

yeh, i couldn't afford to get insured on my dad's car (1992 SAAB 9000 2.3litre) but i drove it a few times, it had lost most of it's horsepower by then though so i doubt it was much more powerful than the Polo (which was my mum's car til this summer). even the polo was >£600pa to add me as a named driver and it's nearly £700pa for my own policy now.

It sucks really. Admittedly, I've pretty much killed my dad's car since May through a variety of practices, but all things considered I think £1200 per year is obscene.

It's called a piece of crap. Though I believe the dealer lists it as a 1995 Oldsmobile 88 Royale.

I was persuaded that I should ditch my 1991 Nissan Stanza, since it had over 200,000 miles on it and was beginning to break down every few months. And my roomies, both very large guys, pleaded with me to get something a bit roomier. And it had been rear ended, so it was beginning to look pretty shabby.

Now I have the Oldsmobile. It breaks down at least as often as the Nissan, in spite of having only one third the milage. Something is seriously wrong with the alignment, something no simple alignment job seems to fix. As a result, I've replaced twenty-one tires in twenty-four months. No exaggeration. Tires 19, 20 and 21 were last week. That includes replacing the spare, since it gets so much use.

The biggest bitch is I'm still paying for the piece of crap. At least the Nissan was paid for.:headbang:

No they dont, we get the SI. Which are very similar, the R has slightly wider tires and a nicer interior tho, but it costs alot more ,go figure.

Alot of people here like to take the DX and base models, or even really old hondas ( NOT BASHING OLD HONDAS! I HAD ONE! )

Also, being a resident of Westren PA, tons of rednecks like to race me. You should see the look on they're face when a huge F body loses to a 2 liter civic.

Well, the thing about the Type-R is its handling. The car is set up to be a hardcore racer that just happens to be on the road.

At least the JDM version is. These days its almost like they use the badge as a prestige thing. So is the suspension setup the same for the SI and Type-R?

But nevermind me, I'm just a tad annoyed at times that I couldn't afford the DC2 Integra Type-R I had a test drive in. What a beautiful machine. Not that my RSC isn't.

Mildly disappointing for someone who used to race, but it gets me about, and it's reasonably nippy. Fun enough on country roads.

Yeah, well, imagine what it's like for me...(actually I've come to terms with it, but I will have a sports car again one day...oh yes, I will...)

If I get something new, since I can't get rid of my baby and I need my mule, it will have to be something like this:

They're similar, tho I think overall the R is a faster car than the SI in the twistes.

Im leaving my SI stock because I dont really feel like modifying it.

I have a '94 Honda Civic DX. It's pretty nice, great on gas, still no major troubles, and takes the winters pretty well. Because of it's age and the condition of the exterior it's become the family junk car, used for getting around when the roads ice over or whenever we need to haul a lot of crap.

hard-top convertable, 140bhp, turbo 2.0 diesel, six gears, 42mpg average, good music system, comfortable, quiet apart from a little wind noise (window rubber come a bit loose) and the engine goes rummm! when you put your foot down :) second hand, bought it about 4 months ago. a few little problems so far, but thankfully nothing too bad.... it is French ;)

love it :D

Karts are the best. It's where I started out, in a rented kart. Got within one second of Eddie Irvine's time at his own circuit, too, despite only having ten laps, having never been there before, and being in a shitty rent-a-kart.

Completely awesome. My brother almost made it into Formula cars on someone elses dime (we really couldn't afford the karts, no way we were going to be able to afford the big cars-and I was too focused on being a musician to match my brothers skill) but ultimately he couldn't work with my dad and walked away from racing all together (and became a more successful musician than I ever was, topping me once again. I'm hoping he never takes up filmmaking...)

One day we will race again. I want to do Baja and there are a lot of good spec series around here which for me I like because the cars are even so it's just me instead of wrestling a poorly set up kart (I raced for years on a bent frame and never knew-which is frustrating because that was my 'bridesmaid' period, where I would finish in the top 5 (out of fields of 40) consistently but couldn't close the deal).

"What's your car?"

Small, and largely disused at the moment. It's a '54-reg three-door Ford Fiesta Ghia, 1.4 litres. Unfortunately, work has moved so far away from home that it's no longer financially or chronologically efficient to drive there, so I have to cycle down to the train station and catch the erroneously-named 07:29am (which is erroneous because thus far, it has not yet arrived before 07:45am). As soon as I find a new job that is closer to home (and pays much better), and burn all my bridges at this job, I'll start driving it again.

I ask because I have to drive all over the city for work/etc. and my city is quite large in square miles, so I get a little more than miffed when people just assume I can walk everywhere.

OKC area in square miles 607

So why bother posting, then? The thread isn't about whether or not cars are good or evil. It's about what cars we have. Grow up some, junior.

Incidentally, my university is nine miles from my house, and while that's a nice bike ride on a nice day, in another few weeks, it's going to be freezing all the time and below zero for three months or so. So you can take your eco-humping nonsense and walk through our weather and ride on frozen streets. Oh, and what if I need to go to the university when the buses (which already don't run out to my place of work) don't schedule a run? Not everyone is on a rigid time schedule for employment. Not only that, but I need to get out to towns so small and so far away that NOT owning a car is the more insane thing than owning one.

I agree that the vast majority of metropolitan folk could probably go without their cars for SOME part of their weekly lives, but out in the wide open spaces of the upper midwest of the US, there's less than no chance of that ever happening.

This (http://photos-d.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v132/90/52/779899852/n779899852_278483_7804.jpg) was fun the one day I had it.

This (http://photos-b.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sctm/v123/90/52/779899852/n779899852_278497_7730.jpg) sat in my yard for the longest time till we got it out (http://photos-d.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sctm/v123/90/52/779899852/n779899852_278499_8490.jpg) and about (http://photos-b.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sctm/v123/90/52/779899852/n779899852_278505_513.jpg). The end result (http://photos-d.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sctm/v123/90/52/779899852/n779899852_278507_1197.jpg).

We used to have one of those, it was a 1989 f-150 dark blue plow truck..its was also called the beast. That thing had more dents and scratches in it than almost any other drivable car I've ever seen. It was the perfect ranch truck, sadly it had to go to a new home. I miss my beast :(

The xB is a 'shows what I know' car. When that came out I thought, "No one is going to want to drive a toaster..."

Shows what I know.

Those things look kinda groovy, like they form up with other cars to become the head/cockpit of a larger robot or something...
