[Note for Mods - I tried making the thread, but the server timed out. It posted, but it shows me nothing in the thread, so I reposted. If for some reason the majority of others see both these threads, remove this one or the other then.]

Well, I want to state this shortly before I let loose the dogs of war on this one..

I've never been a huge fan of the Halo Series. I've never read a single Halo book, I've never cared much for the Halo Games outside of a week full of XBox Live on Multi Player and the First Game's full Campaign and part of the Second Game's Campaign.

Also, I used to always give a lot of shit to the big Halo Fans :-P

Anyways, after having come down with a cold...I decided I'd spend my time researching Halo 3, since I was interested as to why the Halo Movie has been postponed [Turns out it's a combination of it being the MOST expensive CGI Film to date, and the fact that the Producers..I think Paramount?...want to see how the Halo 3 sales do before spending their resources on the project..], and well..

Wow. The trailers, the videos...the documentaries, both fictional and productional, it all is..well, lets say I think I may have fallen for Halo 3.

Anyways, I've stumbled upon this Video. It is called "Believe", it may contain a spoiler but from what I've learned Bungie said that "What is contained in these videos may or may not portray what happens in the game." something to do with the creators of the set were never informed of the Canon of Halo.

PS - This video was made using a real set that was made from various materials, doing the research it's apparently the size of your standard Apartment Room [the full thing, this is only a part of it and the video that is contained in the Yahoo link I'll be providing, no membership required, shows another video of a fictional veteran of this fictional war and it shows it as a small thing], and well wow..

I am an old guy and will have to admit that I play Halo2 online and will have Halo3 when it comes out. My son and I play it together when I actually have time to sit down and play. I also have it at our business on a huge big screen that all the employee's will play until the morning hours after we close. It has to be one of the best games out there. However my knowledge of current games is slim I am told this over and over by the young punks that play it at all night after we close.

While true that there are many cases of hating popular things simply because they are popular, there are plenty of legitimate criticisms of Halo to show that it's just another generic FPS, with generic controls, generic weapon ideas, and a rather generic storyline. It's an okay game, sure, but it's not fantastic and does not deserve the hype it has received.

Play Deus Ex(The first one, NOT Invisible War, and make sure you play the PC version.) That is a standard FPS's ought to be held to.

The only FPSes that caught my attention are GC/Wii's Metroid Prime 1-3 and N64's Goldeneye... and the first three are technically FPA not FPS.

Stop the fucking presses. Generic controls? Are you seriously trying to find an issue with the controls? L O fucking L. The controls are perfect, every console FPS that came after Halo has copied its controls, and for good reason. They're the one part of the game that Bungie did flawlessly. I don't know what you think a non generic control scheme is, but the controls are the one part of a game that don't have to be fucking unique unless you're playing a Wii. I'd rather have good a good control scheme that works than have to suffer through a travesty like Lair that tried something innovative and ended up ruining the whole game because of it.

Well, I think its silly to hate a game you refuse to play, but whatever. You might really like it if you gave it a chance. Its definately one of my top 5 games of all time.

Dark Messiah of Might and Magic had most of the special uber gameplay effects of Bioshock, and then some. And the damn hacking game (as I saw in the demo) is basically an 18 year old game called Pipe Dream.

The original Halo played like a dream and absolutely deserved its Game of the Year billing. The list of shooters that are more fun to play is extremely short. Naturally Halo 2 followed the same formula, and so will Halo 3. Is Halo 3 going to be groundbreaking or compete in terms of overall quality with BioShock or some of the other great games that will come out this year? I doubt it. Is it going to be a damned fun experience? Yeah, that's practically guaranteed.

These are some very common arguments from people that either didn't play the game at all or didn't give it a real chance. I don't care if you like Halo or not, I just hate when people list the same false and/or irrelevant bulletpoints in every argument about Halo, ever. If you had any understanding of Halo and still didn't like it, your criticism would look very different.

On Heroic and especially Legendary skill, Halo is not your average FPS. It does not play like Quake. It does not play like Half-Life. It does not play like anything else out there. Especially on the PC side, FPS games have mostly devolved into pointing and clicking on the heads of your enemies as quickly as possible. In Halo, aiming is largely irrelevant; instead, movement is everything. You also run slower than in most games, further forcing you to be aware of your surroundings. Add to that the recharging shield instead of a standard health system, and you have a game where you run from cover to cover, peek out and fire a few shots and then dive back in to avoid the incoming fire, where the game flows back and forth, between offense and defense. You must understand how your enemies move, fire and react to your actions in order to get anywhere. You must understand from which direction to approach your enemies, which enemies to focus on, which weapons to use, where to take cover and how to retreat.

Don't like Halo? Fine. Just don't say it's a generic FPS, because it's anything but.

I love their Advertisement, even though I admit Halo 2 was boring as shit but I enjoyed the Multiplayer honestly I did.

I think Halo 3 is going to be grand, I watched a lot of "VidDocs" from Bungie, and the multiplayer especially looks promising. Also, it'd be nice to see what happens to the Chief in the end of Halo 3.

I speculate, highly, that he dies..and so that is very interesting to check it out.

They are spending most of the production time on Multiplayer, from what I've gathered, and are focusing on keeping all the material re-playabled by "The Billionth Time", so I have hopes for it really..

Anyways..

Bioshock is almost entirely in a different league of its own.

For Starters - No Multiplayer.

Continuing on from that - It's in a complete different setting than Halo is.

Conclusion? - There won't even be much of a comparison to make in the end.

System Shock 2 .. EA? :( indeed.

Halo Haters - To sum it up about the vast majority of them.. They never really played the games, they are like haters of most other things, and are yet clueless as to 3/4ths of the shit. There are "legitimate" haters, voila I used to be one in a way. Legit being - They've played them through, they've given it some chances, but ultimately think it's a piece of crap.

Also, people should learn the effing cardinal rule of hating/bashing - It's fun to get a rise out of others, especially people who really like something...ie Halo Fans.

Anyways -

All and All, I expect Halo 3 to be a very good game. Even if it doesn't please the entire Spectrum of Gamers, it'll definately be a love-child of the fans and I'm sure a good game to screw around with for several months to a year until another shooter comes out for the 360..

My only true complaint is - If only it'd be released on PC at the same time :-( , honestly sales would fucking boost seven-fold...

There may be something to that, because I get really excited every time I see Jade demoing Assassin's Creed. Really, really excited. I don't even have a console to play it on, but I still want to buy multiple copies of this game.

Halo one was good but a bit repetitive and the missions were kinda boring. Halo 2 was a massive improvement in terms of variety but it was too short and there were too many cutscenes. Halo 3, hmmm, the first two halos were good, not great (I tried replaying Halo one but got bored as opposed to Doom, Doom2 and Quake1 which I've replayed many times) so I can't say Im eagerly anticipating this game. That said Halo1 and 2 are way better games than say Timesplitters.
