While browsing a very reasonable online store (http://www.eluxury.com/index.jhtml), the idea came to me---What could it cost?

I picked four items that are in the room I am currently dying of boredom in; this is what I've got:

From my room..
One pen. (http://www.amazon.com/Ballpoint-Pen-Millimeter-Silver-ZPC29210/dp/B000EFOJTY/ref=sr_1_2/103-9262049-6699850?ie=UTF8&s=office-products&qid=1189926195&sr=1-2).............................................. $3.37
One black pinstripe suit........................... $100 (On sale..)
One blanket purchased with bedding set. ... $50
One laptop case..................................... $30

Total: $183.37*

Now, I've looked up these same goods on the online store.

eLuxury:
One pen (http://www.eluxury.com/browse/product_detail.jhtml?styleid=10510012&SectionID=)......................... $1,620.00
One black pinstripe suit (http://www.eluxury.com/browse/product_detail.jhtml?styleid=11385153&SectionID=)..... $1,065.00
One blanket (http://www.eluxury.com/browse/product_detail.jhtml?styleid=10735932&SectionID=).................... $900.00
One laptop case (http://www.eluxury.com/browse/product_detail.jhtml?styleid=10954553&SectionID=).............. $2,040.00

Total: $5,625*

Difference of $5,441.63

As you can see from this information, rich people will buy anything.

I want you to pick four things from the room you're currently in and compare them to similar products found on eLuxury.*

* 3/4ths estimated.
* Shipping not included.
* If you're really bored..

I searched "Mousepad" and I got these two results:

Shoes. (http://www.eluxury.com/browse/product_detail.jhtml?styleid=11404246&SectionID=)
Purse (http://www.eluxury.com/browse/product_detail.jhtml?styleid=11140738&SectionID=).

Maybe arguments that the rich are stupid has some validity....

Apparently I can spend 420 dollars on a towel rather than the, uh, say, 12 dollars the one presently sitting on my lap cost. Interesting. I'll consider this site if ever I have money left to burn.

On a side note, there did come some good from this, as it made me re-look-up 'Money Left To Burn' from Kettcar, but there only is the suckiest version that ever existed on YouTube, so I shan't link, but if any of you underprovided non-Germans ever get your hands on a copy, do listen to it.

I wouldn't question it..

There are two ways to get rich:

Earn a lot of money.

Spend nearly no money.

Clearly, people who shop at eLuxury or similar places are either in the first category or getting poor quick.

In my room right now:

One leather jacket................Free (it was my grandpa's WWII bombardier standard issue)
One full grain leather wallet....$8.99
One pair of jeans..................$14.99
One diver's watch.................$99.99

On the website:

One leather jacket (http://www.eluxury.com/browse/product_detail.jhtml?styleid=11458869&SectionID=7000)................$1,265.00
One full grain leather wallet (http://www.eluxury.com/browse/product_detail.jhtml?SectionID=2000&styleid=10975127)....$225.00
One pair of jeans (http://www.eluxury.com/browse/product_detail.jhtml?styleid=11432642&SectionID=7000)..................$190.00
One diver's watch (http://www.eluxury.com/browse/product_detail.jhtml?styleid=11324422&SectionID=).................$5,500.00

The last three might be high quality, but my leather jacket is an authentic U.S. military issue jacket. Its form followed its function (not very much protection, but still some), and it is beyond anything eLuxury can throw at me.

That place is useless. I got makeup and bags when I searched for 'lighter', and watches when I searched for 'pillow'.

Anyone who looks rich because they have a lot of fancy things probably isn't. Conspicuous consumption =/= wealth.

In the room I'm in right now... (mind you it's an apartment so the entrance, living room and dining room are kind of one room)

Black baseball cap........$2 (Gotta love Wal*Mart)
Capris........................$20
Wedding band.............$110 (no gem on it; 14K white gold)
Flip-flops....................$15 (splurged on them at Old Navy)

Black baseball cap (http://www.eluxury.com/browse/product_detail.jhtml?styleid=11465567&SectionID=)..........$65
Capris (http://www.eluxury.com/sales/product_detail.jhtml?styleid=11405425&SectionID=)..........................$195
Wedding band* (http://www.eluxury.com/browse/product_detail.jhtml?styleid=11419245&SectionID=)...............$1,150.00
Flip-flops (http://www.eluxury.com/browse/product_detail.jhtml?styleid=11429822&SectionID=)......................$395

* The ring cost more than my engagement and wedding ring combined. In fact, the cost of the one ring is almost as much as the three rings if you count my husband's.

charm bracelet ........ $450

For a charm bracelet? They had better have made that thing with a ten-leaf shamrock if they're charging that much for a charm bracelet.

mine is white gold and has a diamond on one of the charms, I didn't read much about theirs but it wasn't as pretty as mine is.
