Can someone give me suggestions for good bands with lyrics in German? Preferably in the style of bands like Winds or Arcturus, though any suggestions would be welcome. I'm trying to find music that my teacher would be willing to play in my German class, though, so bands with large amounts of profanity or "inappropriate" lyrics are out. Anything else i would be grateful for.

Im not sure what they are saying, so I don't know whether there is profanity or not, but "Ich Will Brennen" by ASP is a pretty good song in German.

.. except for that the Lady's name's Nena (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nena), but yes, those are good.

I have a personal crusade against Silbermond going, but Cicero (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roger_Cicero) was our entry to the Eurvision Song Contest so he might be mildly familiar for anyone watching such haute culture, which could be construed a plus.

Other suggestions are Die Ärzte (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Die_%C3%A4rzte)(in the same "punk rock gone commercialized" vein as Die Toten Hosen (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Die_Toten_Hosen)), Wir Sind Helden (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wir_Sind_Helden)(probably more classroom-suited than Ärzte or Hosen), Grönemeyer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herbert_Gr%C3%B6nemeyer) (also quite classroom-suited yet one of my favorites; he might score non-obscurity points as he is the one who sung the FIFA World Cup anthem last year), and Kettcar (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kettcar) might also be worth a look at, IMHO.

I'm sorry but I'm not into any kind of metal, so I can't help you out with any suchlike suggestions.

I would like to recommend the Partysahnen (http://www.jamendo.com/en/artist/partysahnen/?refuid=31458), XXX (http://www.jamendo.com/en/album/4753/?refuid=31458) (their lyrics are safe for class), Freibeuter AG (http://www.jamendo.com/en/artist/freibeuter.ag/?refuid=31458) (only some songs are acceptable since smoe of the topics are rather radical) or maybe Nino Nexo (http://www.jamendo.com/en/album/2971/?refuid=31458).

If you want some song-recommendations: from Die Partysahnen (you understand that this is pronounced like Partisanen but written like party-cream) Brief vom Mars (nun steh ich hier, jenseits des jenseits des blauen Planeten / meine Füße umweht der rote Wüstensand / der Countdown läuft - die Rakete hebt ab / so hab ich dich schließlich um Sekunden verpasst!) from XXX, I'd recommend "Requiem für Odette" (es scheint, als würde diese Nacht / niemals zu Ende gehen / ich habe so viel an dich gedacht / doch das war nur ein Versehen), from Freibeuter AG "Bundeswehr" (Doch kommt der Krieg, dann bin ich weg / Ich mach nicht mit bei eurem Dreck / Für den Frieden kämpfen? NEIN! / Euch fällt ja wohl nichts besseres ein.) and from Nino Nexo every song is okay...

I am bad at describung music but you can torrent it from the site I linked you to.

Obviously Tiefschwarz, because they're awesome.

Mmmh, all my ideas were mentioned already, except for rap from about six years ago. These days stupid aggressive pseudo-gangsta rap has taken over the scene in Germany, but back then it was good stuff. Mainly from Hamburg, of course.

Unless you really, really hate the style of music, that one is perfect for the classroom. It's got complex lyrics, a bit of a social message and can make you look very good for having selected it.

Rammstein is a favorite, also Erdmoebel, Kraftwerk (although a lot of the lyrics are in English), Wolfsheim, Die Prinzen (very very very poppy), Heino, Die Artze, and Wir Sind Helden
