I have a new laptop that is running Vista home premium. I installed my MS word 2007 onto the computer, saved an important document from CD to the computer, and now I can't find it! Whatever happened to saving things in "My Documents"? Could someone help me, please?

Assuming Windows Explorer still has a search function in Vista...

If you know the filename, open a console and type

C:
cd \
dir $filename /s

Replace C: by the name of the harddisk the file was on if it is a different one, replace $filename by the name of the file.

Yes. And a far more extensive one at that.

Anyway, check the "Documents" folder in your user directory.

what i do when i lose something that way is to save another file and see where it wants to put it. it should be the same location that your last save went to.

The paperclip ate it? Lol. More like the hard drive.

Thanks for the info on typing the file name, let's hope I don't have to resort to that though.

Anyway, check the "Documents" folder in your user directory.

I did that, and it doesn't show up there.

I'll try saving another file, and see where it wants to put it. Thanks for the advice. Never thought of that. :)

it's still on your CD right? try this. open the document from your CD and do a "File" "Save As". then check where it's saving the document.

you can also check the word Options and file locations.

you can also do a search in Windows Explorer for your file name or *.Doc (that will pull up all files with the .doc.
