The Chaser's War on APEC

I know everyone has heard the news. Yes it was funny and brilliant. However, hearing about it in the news does not compare to watching their show on it. After a short delay, the Chaser aired this on Friday night (I assume after they had summarised their legal standing). Here is the link, enjoy:

It is interesting to see, contrary to the official reports, The Chaser was not stopped at the third and final checkpoint, but rather decided they had gone far enough. They then tried to turn around as a joke, and were allowed. So then they decided it was time to bring out Osama. Only then was the faux-convoy stopped.

I also personally loved "Are RSLs harder to get into than APEC?" Wherein the Chaser boys were refused admittance to a local returned servicemens' league club with the very ID that got them into the inner sanctum of the APEC Red Zone. Fucking Gold.

Anyhow, now we look forward to see if all of the enraged judiciary elite will indeed vent their humiliation at public knowledge of their incompetency by sentencing the Chaser team to a maximum of 6 months in jail. While it would be a loss for free speech, I know the Chaser would make the most of the situation. Indeed, I wonder if the very same police elite grinding their axes would want that team in their prison. Who knows what else they could make a public mokery of?

Well all of those guys are masters in Law if you didn't know, they'll get out of it.

A masters in Law doesn't help when you are objectively guilty of a crime. Maybe a crime that stems from a piece of BS legislation, but a crime nonetheless. It was illegal to enter that zone, and they entered it. They really are at the mercy of the magistrate, or a left field random technicality (possible with such fresh legislation).

I hadn't, but that's probably because I live in the real world (aka Not Australia).

Motorcades, like clip boards, have the magic power to lend anyone authority. You'd be amazed what you can get away with if you put even a little effort into looking like it is the sort of thing you should be doing.

I hadn't, but that's probably because I live in the real world (aka Not Australia). Not Asia-Pacific? It made the news in pretty well every country that attended APEC.

You'd be amazed what you can get away with if you put even a little effort into looking like it is the sort of thing you should be doing. Yeah, but you still have to take a moment and appreciate 11 comedians and a few thousand dollars completely circumventing Australia's highest ever security measures and $250 million dollars of expenditure thereupon. Executed so gracefully as well....

Intent is everything. The Chaser team didn't mean to harm anyone, they didn't harm anyone, and they were doing their job. Outstandingly, as it turns out.

In fact, I think they should get a medal for exposing the illusion of security. What's the point of security passes that no-one reads well enough to make out the words "JOKE" and "insecurity" on them?
