Your first girl...

What was the model of your first girl?

I got a Vanessa - made in Belgium around 1975 - white color with a dark roof.

I really enjoyed it, but it was using a lot of fuel.

The new owner is complaining about the same, but, hey that's not my problem anymore.

But for a first girl, I really can recommend a Vanessa ’75.

So, what was your first model?

My first gal was about was about 16 years old. She chugged, and sputtered all the time. She also had a very ugly colour about her. Since then, I have gone for a 13 year old. She has been around the block a few times, but rides real well.

We're talking about cars, right?

Built for speed or for comfort?

An Eliza, came out just after I was born, and best of all, was built taller so that my height wasn't too constraining.

Ran well, though monthly servicing was emotionally taxing.

Great body, and definitely built for speed.

Had to leave when I departed for college, as we were destined for separate paths.

Comparing women to cars is a completely novel idea that has not been done to death at all.

Oooh, that reminds me of ''Shitty", the wonderful model that would stall if you dared come to a stop, and that had a hard time making it up hills.

I've never understood the kinship people feel with inanimate objects. My first car (and the one I still drive) is a ford fiesta, and a battered old bastard it is as well.

My first girl I picked up for a steal at the swimming baths, she cost me 1 cup of soup and a bread roll.

She was a 1978 model(can't remember the name) blonde bodywork, with crome grill and front bumper. I only had her for a week or so, then I spotted another at the same swimming baths a week or so later and traded her in.

I had to stop attending the swimming bath trade in though, as there where far to many ex girls there, and their new owners!

So then it's a lot like feminists being annoyed by the comparison between women and cars, then?

Mine was a '69 Sue. It was a convertible, and the top came off *very* easily. I had a lot of fun times in that one, but had to get rid of it when she got rear-ended by someone else.

An Andrea '73. Wide in the trunk, tempermental, and had a tendancy to burst into flames at a moments notice. Would "go" just about anywhere and was a hell of a ride though.

A 1989 Model, Blazing Red gTi I called Kerry.

A bit of a toughie to control, but once you got the handling sorted, it was a damned fine ride. The issue was one of maintainance, and after a fairly eventful time of it, things broke down on a regular basis, and I had to give her up.

Sad times, really, wish I could restore things to the way they once were.

'Miss' would imply some kind of emotional response to it's absence, which isn't going to happen. I most likely will have bought a new car by then.

I had a tiny '75 Italian model. And I mean TINY. We tried to squeeze 3 people in there once, but it would only fit 2 comfortably. Was great for off-roading, though, particularly at night on an empty golf coarse. Had to be wary of those sand traps....any sand in the engine made for a highly uncomfortable ride home.
