Gonzalo Meza Allende, the grandson of Salvador Allende, spoke in Caracas, Venezuela yesterday, during a commemorative ceremony on the 34th anniversary of Pinochet’s coup d’etat, which overthrew and assassinated the democratically elected Chilean President, Salvador Allende on September 11, 1973.

I want to thank you for the invitation to commemorate this significant day in history, not just for Chile but for the entire world.

I want to take the opportunity to reflect with you—Venezuelans, Chileans, and Latin American friends—on the similarities and differences with the process that my grandfather led when he took power in 1970. But the history should leave us lessons to learn from.

I thought given the discussion of the date of 9/11 that this would be a relevant topic for discussion.

Terrible, terrible crimes were committed during that september 11th, as bad or even worst than the destruction of those twin towers in New York. However, to use any of those tragedies as propaganda is indeed a show of bad taste. Bush with his so called "War on Terror", and latin american neo socialists with their so called "War on Capital".

The victims of these horrible crimes.. the sons of assassinated Presidents.. do have the right commemorate on a presidential stage.. and if they desire to speak up.. they deserve a presidential podium.

Kudos to Chaves for offering them that podium.

Too bad the past Chilean Presidents (including this one) are not willing to give them that peace.
