Ethiopia is soo cute!

They've only just celebrated the Millennium! Huzzah!

Although, wasn't the estimate for the Western Christian church for the date of Jesus' birth a few years out anyway? Is Ethiopia more accurate than the rest of us? Do you know of other countries that have other differing calendars? Do they have any interesting new year celebration traditions?

The article said they were using the Coptic Orthodox Calendar, which is Julian, not Gregorian. Still, I think that would only change the date by a few days, so unless those leap year days really piled up since 1582, I don't know why they are celebrating now.

I read somewhere that Jesus was born in 5 BC...

and quite a few countries have different calendars than the Gregorian one, I'm pretty sure of that.

It says in the article... well, kinda. It doesn't say how the new year found its way all the way into September, but it explains being 6 years off.
