Feline CRF

Anti-Social Darwinism

My cat Bonnie, who I've had for 14 years (since she was 6 weeks old), recently developed chronic renal failure. Today, I had to have her put to sleep. If I had found out about the disease even a few weeks ago, she might still be alive.

Chronic renal failure (aka chronic kidney failure) is relatively common among older cats but, caught soon enough, it is treatable though not curable, and life, good quality life, can be had for a year or two longer.

One way to find out if your cat has CRF is to start having geriatric blood panels done on an annual basis when they reach @ 7-8 years of age.

I miss my Bonnie.

God, I'm so sorry for your loss, and I promise you I'm not just saying that.

My hedgehog, Andromedia died this summer (June 1st). Losing pets is one of the worst feelings in the world. :(

I'll definately be taking both my kitties to the vet to check for this. (They're 10 and 9)

Is one allowed to hug an anti-fluffle mercenary? Ah, the hell with it.:fluffle:

*Hugs ASD*

What are the symptoms? Three of my cats are 11 years old.

Thanks. *hugs back.* :fluffle: It's asymptomatic until very close to the end, then you have dehydration, lethargy and depression, loss of appetite, vomiting and dry vomiting, and lack of coordination.

I'm so sorry to hear that ASD, I know what it's like to lose a cat that you love very much. :fluffle:

Hey, at least your cat lived a long time. I've had terrible luck with cats.

My condolences.

I offer my condolences.

I had to put my 19 year old cat to sleep last summer, whom I'd had since I was 9.
