Yesterday the group - including comedian Chas Licciardello, who was dressed as Osama bin Laden - staged a fake motorcade through Sydney's CBD and were waved on by police.

The three, official-looking cars bore Australian and Canadian flags.

They were just one block from the hotel where US President George W Bush is staying when the joke was realised.

The stunt has made headlines around the globe.

But it has also raised questions about the massive $170 million security net thrown up around the city for APEC.

The police are furious at the comedy team's actions.

funny stuff I'm a huge fan of these guys i watch their shoe religously. just wondering what NSG'ers thought of this stunt

not the Joke ID, crazy stuff

Hopefully this won't interfere with Chaser doing the election this year.

and to make it worse i spelt australia wrong, if my parents found out i would never live it down

any way i love this quote from the comments section:

Massive inconvenience with no real benefit $90,000,000
Inflation of egos of senior officials $20,000,000
False sense of security $50,000,000
Processing of court cases resulting from new laws $10,000,000

Having a group of satyrists make a mockery of it all, with a $3,000 prank, $Priceless

In unrelated news, Hostpitals, education and the environment still under funded.

Why are the police angry at them?

They should be thanking them for revealing the holes in their security before some nutjob does. They deserve medals.

As for the joke, it sounds like the police are ones to be laughing at. :p

It's the embarassment factor. You spend millions looking like you're going be sucessfully defending the nation from terrorists and a bunch of comedians wrecks all that.

They are incompetent. They shouldn't blame the messenger. :)

I love the Chaser, I watch their "shoe" every week too. I was pissing myself when I heard they got through the security cordon & Chas was dressed as Osama!

You need things like this to remind us that we don't live in a police state, at least not indefinitely.

The guys from Chaser were fantastic when they did CNNNN five years ago, and The Chaser was just as good when it started up. Then they went stupid and it has, for the last year, looked like a B-grade Jackass. This is just another example of that.

I'm laughing. But then again, I loved Jackass. :)

They are the most ridiculous bunch of people ever... they keep me happy that, perhaps, this country isn't going to hell like a lead balloon.

I love the War, even if I think some of their stuff is in slightly bad taste. This was stupid of them on so many levels. They deserve whatever punishment they get. I also think they are the bravest, best people ever. Seriously, it took grande cohones, and I wholeheartedly support them in their criminal ways.

I like how they picked Canadian flags to fly during this stunt alongside the Australian ones. :)

yes they figured the australian security guards wouldn't hassle the Canadians and they were right!
