Most Annoying User...Trait

New Limacon
05-09-2007, 01:17
I was originally going to call this "Most Annoying User", but decided against it for two reasons:
1) I like to think I am a decent person. Starting a hate thread isn't decent.
2) Even if I weren't decent, the thread would still ultimately be pointless.
Anyone who had any doubt as to who the worst user was would probably
pick the jerk who started the "Most Annoying User" thread.

So instead, I am asking what people find annoying about all users. In the spirit of remaining decent, please do not refer to specific users in your post
Example: "I hate it when New Limacon starts stupid threads." (bad)
"I hate it when people start stupid threads." (good)
"I hate it when stupid threads are started." (good, but you used the
passive voice. It would be better if you stuck with active.)

i hate it when a poster makes their point as a personal attack against another poster

"if you werent so freaking stupid you would know that flaming is against the rules, you idiot"

sarcastic attacks lower the quality of the forums.

Interesting...

1) Users who have no consideration for others and reduce themselves to the point where they swear and throw tactless insults at other people on the site
2) People who are just stubborn during debates and just keep repeating their opinion over and over without giving any reason to back it up. It's so frusturating.:headbang:

That's pretty much it.:)

The one I don't like is the response 'Actually I....' where the original post is along the lines of 'many people with brown hair also have brown eyes' and the response is 'actually I have brown hair and blue eyes so you're completely wrong'.

I really try not to use myself as an example for anything, although I'm forced to here, and I rather wish others wouldn't either - not that I mind too much but it's does elicit a sigh when I see it.

People who tar an entire group with one brush, as if all people in group X are a hive mind sharing the same beliefs. Extra points when the group has well-known factions and schisms within it.

People who ironically show their intolerance of others and accuse anyone of challenging them of being intolerant.

People who call others' intelligence into question who fail to show knowledge of the simplest rules of grammar, or who cite ridiculously factually incorrect errors to "prove" another poster is wrong.

I hate it when people fail to realize the importance of disagreeing with me, and everybody else. Disagreement keeps the world running. That, and millions of metric tons of super-heated rock and metal spinning around on a specific axis of rotation that generates the magnetosphere which keeps out most of the really harmful radiation, in addition to providing the inertia to keep up the approximate 24-hour rotation. If it weren't for those two things (diasagreement, and the fast moving rock), Earth would stagnate itself.

Feel free to disagree with me, or to disagree with those that disagree with me. I'll disagree with somebody anyways, so there's no point in me trying to prevent it.

In fact, I disagree with everything I just said. Earth goes 'round because of hummingbirds and cozy agreement posts. So there.

The "This is not your blog" crowd. If you do not want to participate in such threads, ignore them. Posting that only bumps the thread. Besides, we don't go into your threads bitching about what you post(trust me, we did consider it about June), so do us the same favor.

People who think all the spam forums should die. As some of the mods will agree, they are needed to keep people more civil, which helps keep the skilled debaters on the forum. Besides, they are fun (sometimes).

Here is where you were, no doubt, expecting me to post something to the effect of "Quite" or "Right on." No doubt, such a predictable move will be made by another poster (or might already have been made while I was writing this).
However, I won't give you the satisfaction of disagreement either, because that would make things too easy for you.
Instead, I shall call upon my old, trusty standby for times such as these: "I have no further comments at this juncture."

Users who play the bigotry card when the real problem isn't in others but in themselves.

Users who spew hatred of a whole culture/group without any real knowledge of that culture - i.e. America bashers, Muslim bashers, gay bashers - the whole range of haters and bashers.

Users who don't accept responsibility for their own actions and get pissed when people call them on it.

Users who hate themselves and accuse the rest of us of hating them, when really all we want them to do is grow up.

1. People that use bad language. I think it reflects on their intelligence and does nothing to make their point.

2. People that are the first to post on a thread by saying "This is a stupid thread". If you don't like the thread, don't post on it.

3. People that say things like "circular reasoning" or "strawman" and have never taken a logic class so don't have a clue what they mean. If you want to hear real use of these listen to Sean Hanidy. He's an expert in their use.

4. Insulting the person rather than answering the argument.

5. People who show disdain for the opinions of others. I'm not talking about disagreement, which is what this is all about. I'm talking about hate for the opposite point of view. I think the "religious right" isn't religious or right but I don't hate them and hope my posts don't sound like it. The same is true of the "left vs. right" political divide. I respect those on the other side. I don't agree but don't hate them.

6. Insulting a newbe. Ok, they don't know how things are done here. Give them a chance to learn. Insulting them only loses a new friend. If they don't come back, what have you gained?

7. Starting 3 threads on the same subject. Before you start a thread check to see if someone got in ahead of you.

8. Putting a web site at the beginning of a new thread. I scan over to see what a thread is about. If all I see is a web address it tells me nothing. Put the topic first and the site at the end.

9. Having the mods pull some of the best topics. I really would like a reason when one is pulled. And if it is generating good discussion, why pull it?

10. People that worry about spelling, proper English, typing errors, etc. As long as the message is understood, what's the big deal? This isn't a formal research paper.

11. Putting on a title that doesn't say what the thread is about.

I hate how the mods are always right. :(

I also hate when some posters attack a person for finding a fault with Muslims.
Speaking of which, I also hate seeing the "omg Ebil M0$lem!!1" sarcastic posts too(though I have done it once myself). A person can be critical of a group and not be a racist or phobic of said group.

I hate some people, myself included, think that they have a good thread topic, and post it, then get dominated for no reason.

I am annoyed whenever someone says, "You think such and such? I pity/feel sorry for you." If you truly pity me, send me an email with your name and Paypal account information. I will gladly accept it. If you don't really pity me, don't say it.

It also bugs me when people forget that real people are on this forum. I'm not sure how many users actually have a social disorder, but there seem to be a fair many based on how they write (if you really have a social disorder, I have nothing against you. It's people that don't have that excuse that annoy me).

Finally, although I don't mind mispelings, poor cApiTAlization, or even badly grammar, I do find it slightly annoying when people get lazy (or overly creative) with their typing to the point of illegibility.

I am the most annoying user.

I add no substance, and my name is spelled "I L" instead of "Il" so I'm a Fascist, and that is never good. I am also annoying because I am very conceited and self-centered and lack the ability to understand that not all my comments in threads will be replied to. Due to my inflated ego, this causes me to feel like Marie Antoinette and all my people are not pleased. It really hurts me when I don't get the attention, while others do. And quite honestly, I am better than them, why are you ignoring me?

I have very little knowledge of what the hell actually goes on in this forum, and later find out I've missed some awesome discussions a week after the thread has gone poof. I am very narrow minded, but I have a lot of money, so it's ok.

People feel threatened by me because I am "self-proclaimed" royalty. I am awesome and cool and totally smart, but I'm not about to acknowledge any form of popularity that could possibly refer to me. I simply don't feel comfortable with full-out praise. This doesn't mean you should get rid of the autographed picture of me that's sticking to your fridge via magnet, nor does it mean you should stop sending me weekly monetary donations. I likes the money.

'Are' is present tense. 'Started' is past tense. Therefore, wouldn't 'have been started' be past tense and 'are started' be an incorrect use of the English language as it would be simultaneously using past and present tense? Or could 'started' be present tense? For example, 'the game is being started' (or would that not actually be present tense?) - if 'started could be present tense, then wouldn't that mean 'are started' is completely present tense?

Good point. However, in this instance "started" is a past participle, not in the present tense.

Another example would be if I were to say, "I am covered in glue." "Covered" is not bound by any tense (it is non-finite verb (http://www.bartleby.com/68/19/2519.html)).
