Good to see those Michigan bastards lost. :p

We got rid of them the first time around, and now they're losing to Appalachian State. How the mighty have fallen...although I'm still curious as to how we're ranked #11.

That surprised me as well. Alwell...Ohio State defeated Youngstown state 38-6

If they didn't...well, I don't know what I would do.

I'd be as happy as I am now to see the mighty fall.

It's rather pleasant to see Michigan lose this one, It goes to show that college football remains competitive, and that the Wolverines are lame.

Yes.

and that the Wolverines are lame.

No.

Yes.

No.

You do have to admit that this lose was 100% embarrassing for the Wolverines. No AP ranked team has ever lost to a DI AA team.

No.

At the moment that seems to be a fairly difficult position to maintain.

Yes, I realize how...masochistic it is to support them here, but eh. You do have to admit that this lose was 100% embarrassing for the Wolverines. No AP ranked team has ever lost to a DI AA team.

Oh, indeed. course, thing is, you made this post and referred to Michigan as, what? Number five. Shit may happen, but we're still good, aye?

Considering you still have Penn State and Notre Dame to deal with, I will hold off on judgment.

Fair enough. We shall see.

FYI: I never said that they were not good. I just posted that they lost to a DI AA team. That's all :)

Aww poor baby. It was a terrific game. Man I wished it was on TV. Any idea if they might show it on ESPN Classic one day?

Care to give some perspective on this for a non-American? In terms of, say, international football?

American Football. Michigan is one of the premier American Football teams we have and they lost to a subdivision I (AKA DI-AA) teams. This is the first time that an Associated Press ranked team (Michigan @ #5) losing to a Division I-AA school.

My football team is going against U. of Illinois this next weekend. I'm hoping for a similar upset, so I can taunt all my illini friends :D

...but I don't really understand this. I mean, this would be the same as Brazil losing to...who? A Sunday league team?

Actually that is not a bad analogy. I am not all up on how the top tier of College Sports (Division I) gets subdivided into Division I and Division I-AA. That does escape me.

All I know is that unless other teams royally screw up, Michigan will not be playing for the National Title in New Orleans.

More or less.
Michigan is in the division where the teams are the best of the best. Any other division teams may be good, but not likely as well trained as the division I teams.

That's just... what's the word? Oh, yeah. Pathetic. Doesn't stop me being a U of M fan, any more than the terrifying awfulness of the Lions stops me being a fan, or the sheer pathetic embarrassment some Muskegon teams were between '89 and '06. (Including the team that lost it's playoff bid because of a bench clearing brawl in... '96? Anyway, it was sad. And I say this even though my brother was playing at the time)

GO BLUE!!

Thats how. It is about the dollar figure and total number of scholarships given for Football. At least that is my understanding of it.

Hey, maybe they'll actually fire Carr this time.

Michigan has no business losing to anyone this year. They ought to have been a shoo-in for the National Championship, and should have been last year too. I'm a Michgan fan, but I'm glad they lost. Maybe the University bigwigs will finally do what they should have done last December.

I'd compare it to Brazil's full national team losing to Italy's U-18 squad. Appalachian are good for their level of play, but there's still no way in hell this should have happened.

I'm actually probably the only one disappointed by this other than the Michigan fans. I wanted my Northwestern Wildcats to be the ones to knock them off. We can still beat them, but it won't be the same.

Actually, I'll generally cheer on whichever team from Michigan is doing the best any particular year. I'll also cheer on CMU, but that's only because I can go to home games for free.

As I'm pretty sure this is the first college football thread of the year, it needs this (http://thehawkeyecompulsion.blogspot.com/2007/08/if-members-of-big-10-were-cars-or-car.html).
