How was the lunar eclipse?

I couldn't see any of it because of thick fog and city lights. I was really looking forward to this one. :( Does anyone have a story to tell, or pictures to share?

I tried to take a picture, but my camera died. But it was the size of loonie held about 20 cm in front of your face.

Never seen a red moon before! Now have to wait 4 years for the next one.

A bit like these but smaller

I saw it totally by accident. Earlier in the evening I had stepped out for a smoke and went, "Huh, full moon."

Later I stepped out and went, "Huh, crescent moon...hey, wait a minute..." then asked my roommate if there was a lunar eclipse, cause it was late and maybe I had torqued my memory for good.

After reasonable sanity had been confirmed I laid down on the grass, enjoyed a cigar and watched the moon disappear while I butchered Pink Floyd lyrics and unsuccessfully tried to lure a cat near me to pet it.

It was too cloudy down here in New Zealand, and I was working last night, so I didn't get to see it. The trolley boy where I work managed to though, and there was a beautiful picture of it in this mornings NZ Herald.

Hey, if I move my thumb over the loonie, it's like a simulated eclipse!

Mobile phone 1.3Mpixel cameras are totally useless at taking images of the moon ...

NZ Herald has a good collection of pictures! The link is just under the photo in this article:

It was magical.

I could have sworn I saw god. Sitting down I was a giant in the world and standing up I was insignificant.

Then a friend sitting nearby, afraid of silence, asked some inane question, and suddenly I was just another person standing in the street looking at the moon.

Yeah I saw it, it was about 8:30PM where I live, when it turned red (when watching through my telescope) it was truly scary.

if there is one thing more trippy then seeing an ecclipse, it's seeing one when you're totally not expecting to and had no idea one was scheduled!

that's what happened when i went out to put the cans by the curb. tuesday is trashday in my neighborhood, and i like to put them out in the middle of the night so i don't have to worry about it if i fall asleep in the morning and would otherwise have forgotten to.

so there i was doing that i look up at this big, more or less nearly full moon, that i didn't know it was supposed to be either. and it looked like there was something wrong with it. like somebody hand nuked a big bleeding hole in its otherwise reflective surface, that or i was seeing spots in front of my eyes.

it was only on about third thought that it occured to me: "oh yah, there's these things called elipsis!"

so any way it was a real trip seeing it when not expecting to, and finally figguring out that was what i was actully seeing!

You could see it pretty well from my place, but somehow I didn't care much. Had a quick look for half a minute or so and went back to the Athletics.

I saw it early Tuesday morning here, last night the moon was red, it was cool.

How was it? Don't know. The sun had already risen here by the time it started. Maine had the misfortune to be the only place in the U.S. where the eclipse wasn't viewable (except where clouds obscured it).

I was watching it, but it started at 5 am for me and it was cold. The plot was pretty predictable so I went back inside.

Blast, I didn't even know there was an eclipse until I saw this thread!

Still, I had a really good view of the one earlier in the year so I suppose I can't be greedy.

The sun was already up. Was supposed to be able to see it at 5:45 or something.

I got the waning slivers, a few. I'm gonna use some of them for band promos.

Didn't catch the whole thing, but did see most of it. Sydney's climate knows how to turn on a show for the occasion. It very suddenly warmed up the past few days. It's like mid-spring, but it isn't even spring yet. Aside from that, it has been a chilly winter. It wasn't even cold outside. Although I wasn't in a shirt and shorts, I could just as easily have been.

Perth, on the other hand, just got a cloudy night from what I've heard. :p

But yes, the lunar eclipse was great. I believe it's the first time I've actually seen it.

If this weather continues, using the water cannon against APEC conference protestors (I don't think so many groups have ever lined up for a protest at one time, lol) may end up being counter productive.

I found a nice, dark parking lot by the river to sit and watch as Luna put on Her red cloak. I didn't smoke anything and drank water — Moon = water, and the eclipse was in Pisces — and howled a few times while listening to ELO's "Face the Music."

When "Strange Magic" came on, I noticed a dent in the face and just laid back to watch as the Moon slowly disappeared, then reappeared as a dark copper orb.

I was seeing a lot of flitting shadows even though the parking lot was empty and wide open, nothing around for several acres. But the experience has me hungry to see a full solar eclipse now. Have yet to mark that off my "Must See/Do Before I Die" list.

The eclipse was complete at about 4:30 am where I live. Ordinarily, I'm asleep at that time, but for some reason I had insomnia that morning and ended up observing the moon from my bedroom window. So completely unlike the last full lunar eclipse I witnessed, when I was outside in freezing weather at 10:00 pm. I'm too old for this.

I saw it last night while going out on a walk a little later than I had originally planned to...stupid thing, too, because there's a mountain lion loose that's been attacking horses nearby AND a pack of coyotes...
