Do you have what it takes to become a citizen?

[quote]When immigrants want to become Americans, they must take a civics test as part of their naturalization interview before a Citizenship and Immigration Services officer. The questions are usually selected from a list of 100 sample questions that prospective citizens can look at ahead of the interview (though the examiner is not limited to those questions). Some are easy, some are not. We have picked some of the more difficult ones. [/uote]

The one about selecting supreme court justices -- the word "selects" felt a bit vague, as they need two of the answers to have a new justice be chosen and confirmed.

They ehm, tell you in the "Application for Naturalization"

just like they tell you that there must be 27th amendments, as a previous answer mentions the 23rd.

As a kid I lived in a hyper-conservative city, where the average person on the streets was generally against immigrants, legal or not, and especially against them gaining the same rights as them. It annoyed me. It apparantly annoyed my little brothers American Government teacher as well. (My brother is a bright kid, this was a hand picked group of students in an honors class). The teacher administered the test to the class, all native born citizens. Out of 27 kids, two would have passed if applying for citizenship. Sad.

My score coming as soon as I can be assed to take the test. Busy with other online junk currently.

These kinds of threads give the wrong impression that all you have to do is score high enough on this test and blam, you can be a citizen. You also need to fork over cash and there's a hefty waiting period. There are also "quotas" for immigrants from various nations and if they happen to have already met their quota for Mexicans, well, too bad for you!

though I must admit, thanks to the multiple answer format, some questions I figured out not because I necessarily knew the answer but because of deductive reasoning

this test is for those who are already in the country. you have to have lived here legally for 5 years then you can take the test. passing the test doesnt guarantee citizenship

the fee is under $400 and there is no quota for naturalization.

Nah. They're more to shame Americans into realizing that having strong opinions about immigrants while not knowing anything about their own nation is kinda hypocritical. Or so it would seem.

100%, by the way. I figured the "Application for Naturallization" was what you used to "apply for naturalization" because a "petition" is more a form for a judge/court to see (example "petition for name change" approved by a judge then alows you to complete the "order changing name" which the judge signs and which goes into public record). I looked it up later, and it turns out that the "N-200" isn't an INS form at all, it's something to do with nutrition.

True enough, but I understand that a lot of illegal immigrants have in fact lived her for such lengths of time. (That is many if not most illegal immigrants were illegal not in crossing the border, but in overstaying visas etc). And how thoroughly do they check the legal status of test-takers?

I got 80%.

I did not know which year the constitution was written
I did not what what form is used
I did not know who said 'Give me liberty or give me death'

I'll be honest and say I gambled on a couple of others as well - I'm fairly certain I would have got the original 13 states if I'd gone through them all but I kind of glanced and gambled.

I'm not American so I'm not too concerned about it.

What would be the pass rate anyway - would I have to get 100%?
