So, Fidel - Dead or Not?

I've been watching the internet buzz with rumours about how Fidel Castro has died for a week now. Nobody has posted about it yet here and since they have to confirm - one way or another - eventually, it might as well be me who steals the headline here. Mwah.
I'm also going to bed now so knock yourselves out with well wishes, good riddances, speculation, conspiracy theories or, whee, actual debate about what you hope for, what you think, and what will happen if he is.
Or just vote.

Well, if Castro is dead, and Raoul does indeed take full executive power then I must say that a great advertising campaign would be...
Cuba: Come visit the world's second communist monarchy!?

Will die on the same day that Brett Favre announces his retirement from the NFL. Mark it down.

Since he's writing in newspapers, I don't think he's dead: http://www.telesurtv.net/secciones/noticias/nota/16828/chibas-al-cumplirse-100-anos-de-su-natalicio/
Sure, could be a fake one, but I doubt it.
Fidel Castro is not dead. It is a common pastime for certain sectors in the US to start spawning rumours about that, although. Chávez already said he is completely tired of denying said rumours. After all, he is not some sort of spokesman of La Habana, (although he may like the job...)
The day he dies, the headlines of every international sevices will explode with that, believe me. I am still expecting a sudden democratic surge from Raúl, those are my hopes. According to his character, that is possible, and not just a sucession monarchic style. Raúl knows that he is an able pollitician, but he hasn't the outstanding charisma of Fidel.

Does it really matter? I heard when you die your hair and nails continue to grow and since Castro's power is held in his beard he will become more powerful if he dies and will have mass weapons of scratching, just like that old dude in starwars.
why speculate? no place is perfect. america damd sure isn't.
at least batista is dead. let's keep it that way.
and stop knocking down everything that refuses to kiss the ass of little green pieces of paper just because it does.
there are no 'worker's paradises', but lets face it, little green pieces of paper don't give a dam about genocide, the environment, or the quality of anyone's life either.

Ah, but I've never come across any of those rumours before, all randomly, while surfing the internet, all over the place... Then again, looking at the poll, apparently they're nowhere near as pervasive as I thought. :p Guess I really was online wayyyyy too much those last few days. ><
But I figure they might just as well want to keep it quiet for a while while they scramble to seal the succession and whatnot. Then again, seeing how his death would be anything but surprising, one would think they already have all kinds of contingency plans ready. Hm.
I am still expecting a sudden democratic surge from Raúl, those are my hopes. According to his character, that is possible, and not just a sucession monarchic style. Raúl knows that he is an able pollitician, but he hasn't the outstanding charisma of Fidel.Well, it's worth a hope.

Damn right. The Miami Cubans utterly disgust me.
Although I think Fidel's alright.

Hopefully there'll be more than one of Zombie Fidel. It'd be pretty good.
Oh, as to whether he's dead or not - it makes no real odds, seeing as he won't return to politics after thing long in hospital.
It's about as important as 'is Ariel Sheron quite dead yet?' in my mind. It makes no real difference.
Yes, there will be parties in Miami when he dies (hopefully these will be put down, simply because it's extremely rude and indeed cowardly to celebrate when somebody dies), but other than that, not much is going to change. I hope.

Castro ought to stand down, and not just to hand over to Raul. A cult of personality really isn't very communist.
Any schemes the CIA may have on the shelf for post-Castro Cuba would be pretty much crippled if he was still alive when, for instance, the Party held a secret ballot for a new leader (without Fidel or Raul in the race.)
There's got to be some kind of handover, if not steps towards democracy. Fidel should do that while he still has a marble to play with.

I've always been amazed by the hatred for Castro. I mean, big picture, he's a zit on the ass of the world. He's hardly worth the amount of anger directed toward him. He's got a tiny little island that no one much cares about.

The world needs to keep Fidel round. We're running out of decent hard working dictators.
