which ones do you believe.......even just a little bit, even though your whole brain tells you that you are an idiot for even thinking you might believe it?

I still think my dreams have meaning, and when I dream about certain symbols that it has meaning. I know rationally it's bunk, but I can't shake it.

After watching documentaries about Curses of Poltergiest (movie) The Exorcist, and the rumor Jim Cavezile was hit by lighting during the filiming of Passion of the Christ. whew I got to tell you superstition tells me some films are just plain unlucky to make.

I also firmly belive in Murphy's Law, "Anything that can go wrong, will."

You're not necessarily wrong about dreams - they may well have symbolic value. Dreams are a visual manifestation of the brain performing its filing duties, ordering your daily experiences and filing them away correctly.

This is a lot of theory but if, for example, you've experienced loving feelings recently, it may dredge up imagery associated with 'loving feelings' due to opening that file and that can be many things.

We have RAM and ROM memory, as a poor analogy, and dreams are theorised to be an output of transferring RAM to ROM.

So symbology of dreams is not a far-fetched idea at all.

I believe that numbers can often have deep meaning because of syncronious events that have happened in my life.

I believe in ghosts, esp, spontaneous healing and I wierdly skipped over choosing 'God' in the poll, I think because of the capitalization of it that reminds me of a god I do not believe in.

I believe a normally unseen, and as of yet unmeasurable, energy fields exist for all living things that some seers call the aura and chakras. I've actually seen it for a brief period of time a couple different times is why.

The moon thing also just seems right or else I am making patterns up out of nothing.

I believe when two women hang out together a lot thier menstral cycles syncronize.

DUDE! I used to live in a place that down on the corner had this big ass cube truck that was a plumbing truck, BUT-it didn't have any contact info on it, no phone number, website, nuthin. AND, when was the last time your plumber showed up in a cube truck? andAND-there was a Crown Victoria parked in front of it all the time.

And when my van was towed without warning and I complained about that at the impound lot they looked at my address and went, "Ah."

Very strange...

i don't need THOSE. i have a whole raft of my own. or rather, what i beleive in about that sort of thing is just not tempting the statistical nature of reality.

13s and cats of any fur, i've always found to be as lucky as not if not more so.

walking under laders is dumb, for totally practical reasons.

don't step on a crack or you'll break you mother's back, is one that was popular when i was in school, and when i think about it, and i'm walking on a sidewalk, i do consiously avoid stepping on the expansion lines carved in them.

i think there are things that work in some mysteriuos way, to some subtle statistical degree, by and because of how we feel about them, irreguardless of whatever may or may not be intrinsic to or about them.

these feelings and expectations ARE subjective of course. they don't always have to be bad things. and while they can never be counted upon to do so, we can, use them to work for us. to at least tweek probability one tiney micro little ways, some good part of the time.

i played with where the ball was going after it was hit at a baseball game one time. and the team i was supporting won.

now of course if that were 100% linear and reliable that would be cheating. but it isn't. and there certainly wasn't anything to stop some dreamshaper supporting the other team from doing the same thing.

Why isn't Jesus on the poll?
because there are only 10 options and one was reserved for Star Wars.
No ghosts in the poll?
nope. I made the poll in like 20 seconds, the only reason for it is so that if someone steals my OP they can't make one.....that's the only reason I do polls. It's not really important to the thread. You can say ghosts without clicking them, look at the options, most of the superstitions that are prevalent are left out.

I believe that it is bad luck to kill a cricket. I haven't knowingly killed one in years.
I recently got over that one, there has been an influx of crickets this month, I killed like 50 in one day near the beginning of the month.

I believe that numbers can often have deep meaning because of syncronious events that have happened in my life.

I kinda buy into that too. I figured out two or three days after my first daughter was born that she was born 19 days after my mentor died, she has 19 letters in her name, her b-day adds up to 19, I was 19 when I had her, and she was 19 inches long. She has had at least 30 more instances of 19 so far in her life and she is only 6.

My youngest's number is 22, she was born 22 months to the day after my first one, she has 22 letters in her name, she was born 22 days after my husband's aunt died, she was 22 inches long (very tall for a baby) and was born on the 22nd of a month.

I am really good at finding patterns though, so it's possible that all of that means nothing.

I know it's totally irrational, but I believe in the concept of the "jinx."

If I really want something to happen, I absolutely positively don't want to say so out loud, because the universe will hear me and cause it to not happen. If my team is close to winning, and somebody says, "We've got this in the bag!" I will totally punch them in the arm for jinxing it and calling down the wrath of the Gods.

My mother is greatly entertained by my belief in a malevolent universe, and will constantly invoke bad ju-ju around me to watch me tweak out.

She, of course, is of the opposite belief: she thinks that if you want positive things to happen, the first step should be openly stating your intentions and your desires.

Just because she's sensible doesn't mean she's gotta be such a punk about it. *grumble*

Considering they do statistically abberant things most of the Roleplayers i play with believe my dice are special too.

(whenever i use them the roll is generally high... the odd time it is consistently low it turns out the GM hoped we would get high rolls, furthermore if anyone other than me uses them then they roll low... - one game i played i got something like 6 rolls of 20 in a row, seconds later a string of 8 20's. - that game i also got a total of around 150 20's. (this is all on a 20 sided die) Since then we dont use exploding rolls anymore.)

My friend has Nasty luck with dice. even one on a video game.

Feng Shui. the RPG game uses two dice. one positive and one negative. the resulting number is added to your skill points to determine success or failure.

he kept rolling up negative numbers.

so in the middle of the game, he announced that he would switch the positive and negative die and then he tossed em.

and the dice switched on him as well... so he still ended up with a negative number.

Was FSM that magazine with half-dressed Jessica Alba? If so, I believe in FSM.

A superstition is that which remains after the substance of a belief has been lost. Like those kids in Mad Max who worshiped a vinyl record which they believed would one day lead them to the Promised Land because one of the first sentences it taught was "We are going home."

FSM can't be the source of a superstition because it never had any substance in it. At least, none that wasn't added by the reader.
