And We're Worried About the Religious Right...

How about the totalitarian Left? Huh?

China has decided to cash in on Buddhists that are re-incarnating by licensing them...
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/20227400/site/newsweek/

Aug. 20-27, 2007 issue - In one of history's more absurd acts of totalitarianism, China has banned Buddhist monks in Tibet from reincarnating without government permission. According to a statement issued by the State Administration for Religious Affairs, the law, which goes into effect next month and strictly stipulates the procedures by which one is to reincarnate, is "an important move to institutionalize management of reincarnation."

No more Dalai Lama, I guess. Not unless he's paved the way by getting the proper permits.

How does one enforce something like that, anyway?

When did China become the left? If anything, they're running pretty close to laissez-faire capitalism with a totalitarian central government. That they call themselves communist is sort of irrelevant--I can call myself the Yogi Maharana but I still can't get into a lotus position without dislocating at least two joints.

China's a fucked up place. All they care about is MONEY. The environemnt, schooling, healthcare, old age pensions, law and order and all of those other things are being forgotten. Kind of like being a libertarian, I suppose.

My aunt lived there a few years ago and she said it's basically a hell hole.

Lost you after the "João Lucas" part. I still hear the stories about the "old" China -- Mao's China, if you will from the people that escaped it. Those days were certainly Communist and Communist is certainly politics that are leftist.

Pal, you need to do what you can now. I gained almost 30 pounds after I left the Marines and finally lost the last of the 20 I set out to lose. It's a lot harder after 50 than it is before.

You'll feel a hell of a lot better...I'll bet that fancy country club that you work at has a gym. Lift some light weights once in a while, too. We're not talking Charles Atlas, just enough to stay limber. It keeps the joints from aching when you sit a little too long.

Those days - new law...just a little outline to help out.

And why am I not as worried? I don't live there. In principle, yeah, that sucks. I cannot elect officials nor be directly effected by their laws so I'm understandably not as up in arms as I am by the ones that affect me close to home.

So the totalitarian gov't of China equals the liberal democratic left of America how, exactly? And If I hear one bloody word about how Democrats are Communists, You're on my ignore list. Period. Do not pass go, etc.

I guess the reason of this silly law is to try to "call the bluff" of people who claim to be reincanations? But I guess if somebody either is or truly believes they are a reincarnation it really wouldn't make much of a difference.

this right and left thing is mostly a play with words. fanatics of any extreme are all the same the thing, however they may differ over their excuses.

naturally the corporatocracy has a bias against anything that refuses to kiss the ass of little green pieces of paper. one i do not see the bennificence of anyone else supporting. nor do i see one, in ANY concept of 'conquest'.

At one point in time, China was leftist and totalitarian. Now it is just authoritarian. I'm not sure I would even call them conservative, the government is just opportunist.
