Dean Ashton. He spent most of last season crocked, but I think he will prove himself in the next season.

Teddy Sheringham, now at the mighty...Colchester United.

Or Nicky Barmby, now at the only marginally less mighty Hull City.

Seriously, though, probably Gerrard. Liverpool would be shit without him.

I am the very model of a modern English footballer,
I shoot and score and dive and cheat and argue with the manager,
I earn far more than I require, but still must always ask for more,
My wife is always shopping and owns more shoes than all before;
It seems each time I play my game there's some poor fool as referee,
Why can't he ever make the right decisions for my team and me?
My views are all objective and would never be at all unfair---
I must call out the physio each time I need to gel my hair.

But overall I think I'm quite a gentleman and cordial,
In interviews I always sound concise and intellectual,
I fight off every challenger, my faith is in the manager,
I am the very model of a modern English footballer.

I don't know why I just made that up, I guess the thread title inspired me. Damn G&S and their catchy tunes.

Scholes. Perhaps Gerrard, however, Scholes has maintained a genuinely exceptional level of performance for over a decade, acting in any number of positions.

Yeah Scholes is up there. Joe Cole is also great player. The one to watch now thoough is Mikah Richards, He is playing well for Manchester City and I was impressed with his performance tonight against Germany.

Bastard. Bastard Bastard Bastard. No amount of good performances for England can compensate for how criminally well he played against United on sunday:mad:

Exactly. Rooney's only pretending to be injured as well...:p

Incidentally, its Zinidine, not Zenedine. Honestly, if you will correct people on spelling, at least be correct.

I knew there was an 'E', I just misplaced it.

Anyway, we were a hell of a lot closer than that other guy.

So what, England gets beaten by Germany and we have a total of two people even acknowledging this fact? Dammit, I wanna gloat!

Also, Italy lost 3:1 against Hungary. So much for the World Champions, I guess.

The problem with England is that we all need to realise that our team is crap - once we've done that, they'll go and win the World Cup against all our expectations and we'll have another 40 years of boasting.

I can't say who the best player is, but I can say that Kieron Dyer is a waste of flab.

I voted for Lampard. Though acknowledged for sure, I still feel he's a bit underrated. People always blame him (among others) if England or Chelsea lose. I think he's been consistently good during the last few seasons.

Richards played awesome! But we still lost 2-1.

'Good' english footballers are a myth. And they'll continue to be a myth until they learn to turn at least one of their half-dozen 100% chances into a goal.

Seriously now... How the hell did they manage to miss this often? O_o

On a sidenote, counting the seconds until McClaren gets the boot.

There's a good reason people blame him. Personally, I die a little inside everytime I see him on the pitch.
