Favourite Metroid Game

Now that the release of Metroid Prime 3: Corruption is imminent (in North America, anyway - damn you, Nintendo, for your PAL tardiness, damn you to Alabama!), I have been replaying some of them and thought a poll about it would be mildly interesting. So, which is your favourite and why? Poll coming.

I'm quite partial to Metroid Prime because it is reminiscent of the first games, but it's actually got reasons for doing what one does, while the NES and SNES versions had things hidden in completely pointless and unintuitive locations. I don't like Echoes as much, because I don't like the dual-world Zelda-esqueness of it. Mind you, I love the Zelda games, I just feel that it doesn't work that well for Metroid - it makes the backtracking just annoying.

I don't put such nonsensical and untruthful things in my polls.

The original was really good. As was the one for the SNES.
Didn't like any of the ones for the Gamecube. No story to speak of, really. I've kind of grown to expect that in games.

Because I don't give a shit about their opinion, and it's my poll.

What? The Prime series has much more of a story than the NES and SNES versions.

I haven't played any of the Metroids.. but I'd give it a try if I got that chance.

If you have a Wii or a GC, you can pick up Metroid Prime for a pittance. The SNES and NES games can be played on your PC with a emulators for free. Technically illegal, but meh.

Right, but I played those many years ago, before I started expecting stories out of games.
I wouldn't play them today.
It doesn't mean they aren't good games. In fact, I wouldn't say the Prime games are bad games either. Just not my cup of tea.

I like Metroid Prime too, because compared to all that had come before it (and some of the later ones, though I'm not that familiar with em) it has more style, atmosphere. It was just a more compelling story and ambiance.

But I like all Metroid.

I love Samus.

I'd do her.

I would have played it long ago but I was into Mario for much of that time. Metroid didn't seem to be about a plumber, but I could be wrong.

Even with all that it still exhibited one of the qualities I'm not very fond of in games. Inexplicable boss fights.

Did you read the scanned Chozo lore and Pirate data? Those explained most, if not all, of the bosses.

They explained every single thing in the game, actually. I read every piece I could find.

And it isn't like they were particularly hidden - Chozo writing was usually out in the open, free for scanning, and the Pirate data was mostly extracted from the computer terminals, which also were right there in the open for you to scan. So, it didn't serve the story on a platter and you had to work for it a bit, but it isn't like you had to work your ass off.

Not only that, every bit of info you could scan was colored bright orange.

Red, even, if it was Chozo Lore or Pirate Data. You really had to work to miss it.

Metroid games are more the same the Mario games. It's like asking which Sonic the Hedgehog is your favorite; they're all the damn same.
The choices would be:
1) Side scroller version
2) 3d shooter version

Thank you for allowing your opinion to be dismissed. As noted previously, this thread is not for your ilk.
