Naming the fleet

Okay, so for my own purposes I need to name 141 more space navy destroyers. This has nothing to do with actual NS, so I decided this is a safe place to put it =D. Anyway, the purpose of this thread is to get help from the wonderful denizens of NS to come up with names for those 141, since I came up with 19 before I hit a mental block. I'll just put up the number designations, and the ones with names I'll put the name in quotes. Just pick any unnamed number and give it a name, I'll update it and reply as they come in. Thanks folks :D. Oh, and this first post has the regular destroyers, the second post will have the missile destroyers.

So, Admiral of the Fleet John Jellicoe, Admiral Reinhard Scheer, Admiral David Beatty, Admiral Franz on Hipper, Vice-Admiral Sir Cecil Burney, etc. etc. etc.

"Smunktastik" has more of a nasty 80's porno movie title than a Battleship.

we can just toss off names... like we have been. but nomally, most navies have some sort of naming rules that they use.
For instance.
http://www.fas.org/sgp/crs/weapons/RS22478.pdf
Are There Naming Rules For Ship Types?
Rules for giving certain types of names to certain types of ships have evolved over time. Attack submarines, for example, were once named for fish, then later for cities, and most recently for states, while cruisers were once named for cities, then later for states, and most recently for battles. For ship types now being procured for the Navy, current naming practices can be summarized as follows:
! The 10 most recently named aircraft carriers have been named for U.S. presidents (8 ships) and Members of Congress (2 ships).5 On January 16, 2007, the Navy announced that CVN-78, the next aircraft carrier to be procured, will be named for President Gerald R. Ford,6 making it the eighth carrier since the 1970s named for a U.S. president.
! Virginia (SSN-774) class attack submarines are being named for states.
! The first DDG-1000 class destroyer has been named for Admiral Elmo R. “Bud” Zumwalt, Jr., who was the Chief of Naval Operations from 1970 to 1974. This is consistent with past practice of naming U.S. Navy destroyers for U.S. naval heroes and leaders.
! Littoral Combat Ships (LCSs) are being named for small and mediumsized cities. The Navy has named the first two LCSs Freedom and Independence, after multiple U.S. cities with these names. The Secretary of the Navy wanted the first two LCSs to bear city names that refer to important U.S. values.7
! San Antonio (LPD-17) class amphibious ships are being named for U.S. cities.
! The Navy wants to procure the first LHA Replacement, or LHA(R), “big deck” amphibious assault ship in FY2007. The previous eight Wasp (LHD-1) class big deck amphibious assault ships were named for World War II-era Navy aircraft carriers and earlier Navy ships. ! Lewis and Clark (TAKE-1) class cargo and ammunition ships are being named for legendary explorers.
so if you adopt similar for your Destroyers and Missile Carriers, it would make things easier. especially if you break down each into different classes.
Say, the Nova Class Destroyer, Nebula Class Destroyer, the Savior class Missle Frigate, the Black Adder Class Missile Frigate... that way you also remove the illusion that every Destroyer is the same and also with the Missile Carriers.
Just a Suggestion...

Shangri-La (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Shangri-La). Would be more appropriate for a carrier, but still works for a warship. Using various war deities (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_war_deities) also works if you're into that sort of thing.

I considered that... but then, I'm not that creative, especially since I tried to stray away from things like city/states/people themes because not only are there 160 of these (and not to mention I have close to 800 frigates that only have a class name and unit number right now), but the power that runs all this stuff has eliminated a sense of regionalism and brought it to the planetary level to help keep things unified. To start using city names would sort of break that up.

DD-2-77 "Lutscher"
Errrr.... don't shoot me... but I snuck those in. Both are translations (French and German) of Lollipop. :D
But I am going to take a swing here... you put them next to each other, which they were not in my post, so maybe you figured that out already?

Hahaaha... at least the sound cooler than lollipop. And no I didn't realize that, they just sounded cool and happened to end up next to eachother.
It never hurts to name them after World War I Naval commanders!
So, Admiral of the Fleet John Jellicoe, Admiral Reinhard Scheer, Admiral David Beatty, Admiral Franz on Hipper, Vice-Admiral Sir Cecil Burney, etc. etc. etc.
There's loads of 'em, and they've all got great names!
Beatty doesn't deserve his name on a ship. He was a horrible tactician and an even more horrible man.
The slanderous shit he did to Jellicoe was despicable. He is damn lucky the Lion wasn't lost like half his force was at Jutland. He really fucked up there and Jellicoe saved his ass.
Beatty turned around and thanked him by slandering the man.

So save the unused names for another time. There's always an occasion for naming something.

I'll now go into II and use my own fleet of NX class and Daedalus class vessels to destroy it. Either that or I'll wait until I commission my first Constitution class.:p

Pah! Stock standard ships, even heavily modded ones, have no imagination. No soul. Custom designed battlefortresses from ground up. Everything from descriptions to actual schematics. That's the way to go.
