Are Children Tools?

Wilgrove

Are parents using their children as tool in the political ideology war? Today on the Rush Limbaugh program, a nine year old girl called the show talking about how 'liberals' should say whether or not a person should smoke and where. Also if anyone remembers the CNN/YouTube debate with the Democrats, they did say at the beginning that several people filmed their children asking the questions that they would probably have no real insight in on. If parents really are using their children as political tools, then why? Why do they think that anyone will actually listen to children who are uninformed about the subject when they probably should be listening to adults who are informed about the subject? Yes there is the 'aww' cute factor, (which I find annoying) but does it really add any credibility to the subject, or does it just cheapens it? Also, for parents who use their children in this way, are they bad parents or just stupid parents who shouldn't put their kids in that situation?

Meh, I started reading political literature without any prodding from anyone at a fairly early age. Children are naturally curious and contrary to popular belief, can think for themselves. Who is to say that they dont actually have a healthy interest? That should be encouraged, not scorned.

At any rate, I wouldn't think that deeply into parents allowing their kids to be filmed on TV shows. Most likely they simply wanted to give them their 10 seconds of fame, and I dont think it goes much deeper than that.

i don't think their main goal is to use children, i think they're using the opportunity to raise their children the way they want

You just won the thread, lmao.

Seriously though, parents have always tried to influence the political ideals of their children. To some extent it works, to some extent it doesn't.

Yep they are bad parents. I do use my kids as tools though. One of them I use to washup, and the other to dryup and put away!

When did you become a priest?

Okay, okay, bad joke.

Seriously, though, the fact that this question is even being asked "aloud" is scary. OF COURSE children are tools. Why else do we have little league parents getting into fights with umpires and referees? Why else are there beauty pageants for toddlers? Why else do some companies/screenwriters think it's adorable to have kids talk like adults in commercials/movies?

Parents who are politically active yearn for their spawn to hold the same positions they do (if they're honest with themselves). Some do their best to be politically neutral, most do not. Thus, we get five-year-olds helping to burn Harry Potter books in Alamogordo a few years ago (the reporter held a mic to the kid's face and he said "Harry Potter is Satan"... ). It's a bleeding tragedy, but it's not going to stop.

Nah, I find puerile opinions such as those are far better suited to children than so called adults. :)

What makes you think that the parents are necessarily informed about the subject?

I think it is possible for children to have insight into difficult matters but I don't think that parents should use them as some sort of tool. I never met a child who knew the number to Rush Limbaugh's radio show...

Of course children are tools. They are their parents' tool for them to have something to cuddle that they need; to patch the marriage that is falling apart (or a means to get the partner into a marriage in the first place); as somebody to live one's authority-complex out on; as somebody to realize all those goals they were too stupid to realize theselves; as a status object for the (grand)parents, friends, and neighbors; as a means to assertain their 'normalness' and 'familiness' to the world; as an old-age security,....

Nobody has children because they think it'd be the best for the child, or becaus ethey think life in and of itself is so supreme that they'll have to grant it to as many kids as possible - no, people have kids because THEY want them, for individual reasons, and those kids then serve as tools to satisfy those reasons.

Well, so some people appear to find some new ways to utilize their tools. Meh.

Well, that's just expressing a preference in tools, then, isn't it?

Damn that's harsh. It's too bad the majority of people who are stupid enough to attack people for being Muslim are too stupid to tell the difference between a Hindu, Sikh, Muslim, etc.

And I was really, only kidding.

Heh well it was just after 9/11, and I was coming home from work, as I got near to my place, I saw a small group gathered, and just sorta walk through them. In the middle was the Muslim bloke who owns the hardware shop just next to the church, just next to my gaff, holding a reving chainsaw I guess he had been accosted by the gathered group or summit, coz he was well irrate.

He saw me, lunged towards me and screamed I'll cut your fucking head off. Heh shit, I jumped back, backed out slowly and walked around the group instead.

Really, I don't mind make all the jokes ya want. How can 'religoin' get get angree, and how does one go about pissing off God? So like I say, it really doesn't bother me.
